Though Old Town is safer than much of downtown Chicago, it's still part of the metro area so there’s a higher risk of property crime than in other parts of the state. 12 violent crimes were reported per 1,000 people annually in the Old Town neighborhood, compared to 4 per 1,000 residents in Illinois as a whole. Property crime rates in Old Town are lower than Chicago's average but higher than Illinois state averages.

Tom, I can't stress enough that the problems in Old Town have only started the past several months.  That's when BLM decided to organize a movement to cause havoc on Wells Street.  They're doing a good job of ruining the fun.

I'm staying in Old Town, but will be parking in Steve's secure garage.  As promised, I'll meet PJ on Wells Street and we can see for ourselves what's happening.  Since PJ has never and he won't be there, I will instead bus or taxi to the north and away from the Wells Street troubles, and I'll enjoy a dinner at Crisp.  It's a very casual place, but has great Korean food.

It should be noted that Crisp is in Lincoln Park, and the BLM punks are not targeting this area to ruin my evening and the evenings of others.

If Chicago is such a great place why are people moving out

I was raised in the Chicago NW suburbs.  Some LIbs will bitch and whine about this, but I frankly grew up in Mayberry............like that's a bad thing.  Chicago was kind of a playground for us going to the museums, zoos, ball games and the such.  Chicago should never be blanketed as a terrible place.

What has happened in Old Town in the past several months is a travesty.  Those ignoring this are pricks and idiots.

Did you see the pictures of hundreds of pricks and idiots soaking up the sun at the beach Boilerman said is fundamentally an unsafe place to do so?

I suspect they feel the same way about people who make up stories defaming their neighborhood.

I'll be talking with Old Town locals in a month.  I know that they will agree with me.  PJ has never been there, yet he's an expect.
