Package vs Booking Hotel and Air Ala Carte - October trip

Leaving DFW (Dallas) to Las Vegas.  4 nights and 5 days.  There is a conference at the Flamingo and I got the block rate of 89, 129, 129, 89.  All in with fees is $540.  Sun Country Air Fair after baggage fee and select seat is $317.  Total is 857 and I stay at the hotel were the conference is.

I found a great deal at Orbitz at the SLS Vegas.  $475 all in.  But by the time baggage fees and resort fees got added I was at $765 and still had to Monorail or Uber.

Anybody have an idea of what I should do differently.  My Sun Country airfare is refundable to 5:00 tomorrow so I could change.   I checked Southwest Airline packages and United Way packages but didn't find anything.

If I am missing anything obvious then I have a little time so I thought I would ask the community.

To me, I'd rather stay where the conference is happening, even if a bit more money.  Flamingo is mid Strip as well, another point on the side of keeping what you have.

One thing about convention rates, they are always higher than rack rate even though we are made to think we are getting a better deal with the meeting.  So, just pester the reservation people at Flamingo, ask if they can give you a better rate.  Not that it is bad to begin with, but doesn't hurt to ask.

Thank you Candy.  Appreciate the quick reply.  I will pester them a bit.

I agree it is better to be at the convention.  My tipping point is $100.  If I save $100 it might be worth a monrail trip.

The SLS is somewhat isolated, so if you want to go anywhere, you have to take the monorail, cabs or the very slow bus to get anywhere.

Thanks Tom.  Looks like I am all set.  Boy do I miss the old days.

12 Things Most People Don't Know About SLS Las Vegas

Poor old DonDiego still doesn't know what Alladin's Genie, Dracula, and Queen Elizabeth have in common.

Something for every culture or taste?...er...nevermind.

Or, perhaps these were tokens awarded when a player achieved the corresponding players club tier:  Ruby for Genie tier, Silver for Dracula tier, and gold for Queen tier.
