😂 Paxton Down By 4 points in latest poll

According to the newest poll from the Texas Public Opinion Research, Democratic state lawmaker and Presbyterian minister James Talarico is leading Republican state Attorney General Ken Paxton 47 to 43 — notably, being one of the first polls to show Talarico relatively close to the 50 percent threshold, meaning Republicans would have to win a very large majority of undecided voters to overcome this lead if it is true.

It's truly amazing: MAGA has figured out a way to lose Texas. Support not the guy who would win easily; support the corrupt, nasty asshole whose only "virtue" is that he continually slobbers on Trump.

This is a harbinger of things to come. The Turd has been quite successful in making sure that only his most rabid supporters have won primaries. That will, in turn, make sure that Democrats win every district and state that is even remotely competitive. It is now a virtual certainty that the Dems will take the House, even with all the Republipig gerrymandering, and the Senate is suddenly within reach when a year ago, even the most optimistic Democrats were saying that wasn't possible.

Thank you, Trump! Blue tsunami coming!

This company is run by Luke Warford a Democrat and the former Chief Strategy Officer of the Democrat party in Texas; so the results are questionable

Don't want to burst anybody's bubble here, but we in Texas know that after the billion dollar viciously dirty repuglican campaign kicks off Talarico will be a long shot to win. There are millions of David Millers here who are easily manipulated and vote R no matter what. Unless we can inspire a massive Dem turnout we will end up electing another crooked asshole to the senate.

I truly hope  I'm wrong this time, but after seeing people like Ted Cruz and our state "leaders" getting elected over decent human beings time after time we are pretty disillusioned. The good news is that there are a lot of decent folks still living here. Hoping they all vote in November...

Dems have been dreaming for a Texas breakthrough for decades--I've learned to believe it when I see it.

Yep. It's been an absolute cesspool of government here ever since the village idiot George W "shrub" Bush won the governor's race in 1994. We sorely miss Ann Richards - our last true Texas hero.

Remember when a few days ago, a thread was started about a poll showing that Trump's approval rating (re his handling of the economy) had dropped to a historic low, and stupid Tom immediately started screaming FAKE NEWS FAKE NEWS FAKE NEWS IT'S BIASED ITS ALL A WITCH HUNT AND WHAT ABOUT HUNTER, HUH????. Until it was gently pointed out to him that the poll had been taken by Fox Nooze.

So poor stupid Tom was painted into a corner. He had to either admit that the whole country hates his orange hero, or say that his lords and masters at Fox Nooze were liars. He chose a third option: he slunk away.

Remember, stupid Tom, the only test for whether a piece of news is authentic is whether it's something you want to hear.

In a New York Times article this morning (can't give a link; it's behind a paywall), this very issue was discussed. How many stinking Texas Republipigs will defect to the other side and vote for Talarico, and how many will just stay home? The admittedly small sample seemed to indicate that most of them are going to "hold their nose and vote" rather than sit this one out, but about a third of those asked said they couldn't stomach Paxton and would vote for Talarico, even though they had never voted Democrat before.

So based on this perspective, it's going to be decided not necessarily by turnout but by how many Republipigs are so disillusioned that they won't vote for him. Makes me wonder: what does it take to disgust a Texan Republican, given their avid love for a rapist, thief, and murderer? It appears that Paxton's greatest liability is his corruption. Is that a big deal for the gang that voted three times for one of the worst grifters in world history?

I've visited Texas many times. Aside from it being butt-ugly, the people seem...different. They have this bizarre combination of cowboy culture, God Squad, and rabid jingoism (disguised as patriotism). That results in a state where most people literally think like no one else on the planet.

Texas was independent once, and then it tried to secede. They don't really want to be part of America, maybe we could expel them? Sell the place back to Mexico, its former owners? Trade it for Greenland (the art of the deal!)?

The thing is even if he doesn't win, the Republicans will have to pump millions into a very expensive race in Texas that should have been a 🎂 walk. That means they won't have as much money to spend on other competitive races.  The one good thing about Trump is you can always count on him to sabotage himself and the Republican Party.

There will be a few billion attack ads, all focusing on Talarico's past social media posts and statements that show that he's a LIBURRUL, OOOH and of course, a SOOOOOCIALIST. And because the Republican party uses the Nazi party strategy of endlessly repeating a lie, they'll have to buy lots of airtime, though they probably pressure media outlets to give them steep discounts because their message is "patriotic."

Whatever the outcome, this will be one of the ugliest Senate races in American history, as is anything in which the Republican party is deeply involved and invested. I just hope that the Hispanic voters finally realize just how much the Republicans hate them. The advantage for Republicans with that group is that the Republicans style themselves as the God Squad and the Democrats as godless heathens. That has actually sold in the Texas Hispanic community.

We'll see.
