Freemont turns into Boulder Highway, and is a pretty easy drive if you avoid  the rush hour and lunch traffic

Since I don't have an Apple phone, I use www.sigalert.com las vegas to access the traffic map.  I used to use sigalert.com all the time when i lived in CA.

Yeah, I think downtown to Boulder Highway is fine.    I spent alot of time in Henderson and the south valley.  Easy to get around there.

The bad parts are MOstly the strip , I-15 and a bunch of construction in the Arts District and on Charleston downtown (made my trip to Frankies Tiki Bar a pain).

Thanks guys!

The whole thread is dumb.  Of course Covid is a huge part of this.  But MP chiming in about 2021 like he is smart or something seems kind of desperate.

Hey PJ, in another forum you mentioned traffic is awful there right now.  But how about going from downtown out to Henderson and back a few times.  Can I just go East towards Sunset blvd and around? How is that with construction?

Best and fastest way from downtown Vegas to downtown Henderson: I-515 to Lake Mead Blvd exit, which is where the 215 loop intersects. Drive east about 4 miles on Lake Mead.

Second best way: I-15 south to the aforementioned I-215 Beltway, past the airport, thence to downtown Henderson, as above.

Fourteenth best way: Fremont Street to Boulder Highway to downtown Henderson. It's a much slower drive than the above two routes. It'll take you 10-15 minutes just to get to the intersection of Fremont/Boulder/Charleston, which is where Boulder Highway begins, then a good half hour the rest of the way.

HOWEVER, there are two good reasons to take the usually slower Boulder Highway route: 1) if you are returning to downtown from 4-6 pm (approximately), the last few miles of I-515 are a parking lot; and best avoided; 2) if you need gas, the BY FAR cheapest station in the area is on the southeast corner of Boulder and Russell.

Boulder Highway remains the only road in America where I've been a) pulled over and shaken down by the police (a complete dismantling and search of my car, ending with all the contents strewn upon the ground (I wasn't arrested)), AND b) had my driver's side windows shot out by a pellet gun as I drove down the road.

It is that first one I was thinking about.  Couldn't remember the I-515 part.  I've made that drive only maybe 1-2x as it is the 2nd route I usually use.  Wasn't sure which was one faster, assuming no traffic delays.

From the NDOT website, I'm posting the projects on I-515 from around Desert Inn Blvd to the I-215.  Usually when I go from downtown to Henderson, I end up in traffic congestion.  I need to pick a better time.  Take care and enjoy your next trip.  https://www.dot.nv.gov/projects-programs/transportation-projects/i-515-projects

You should never take the 15 to the 215 to Henderson with all the construction  if you want to take the 215 and save 10 minutes, then by all means do so if you feel safe driving in the traffic.  Boulder highway has all been redone and is a cool 30 minute drive to water street from the Freemont valet.

My point to point from downtown to Water Street using the 515 and Lake Mead Blvd is 22 minutes. 15 to 215 will take longer simply because of distance, but might be a good way to return if there's traffic on 515 just south of downtown, as is true in the morning and evening rush hours.

I avoid Boulder Highway at all costs (unless I need to buy gas). Too many nutso drivers, and too many cops looking to do a little revenue enhancement.

As I said ,  The 515 will save you 10 minutes if the traffic is right.  I am sorry if Kevin had some bad trips on boulder highway back in the day.  But it has all been redone and is a cool drive down memory lane and totally safe.  One way is a little quicker, the other is way cooler and I have driven both in the last 3 months many times
