A politically neutral analysis of the shooting of Alex Preti from a use of force expert.

A professional use of force expert gives a (mostly) politically neutral analysis of the shooting of Alex Preti.

Well, politics shouldn't even remotely enter into it. The MAGA narrative, though, has been that anybody even observing or attending, let alone actively participating in, an anti-Trump protest is a liberal radical radical liberal left-wing narco-terrorist, which cancels out their civil rights.

I mean, look at all the disgusting MAGA apologia that burst out like pus within a few hours of the killing. They simply lied, saying that he had a gun and "was brandishing it as he attacked the agents" (Fox Nooze).

It doesn't require expert analysis to understand what happened that day. An untrained, unprofessional thug masquerading as law enforcement freaked out and shot someone TEN TIMES ..AFTER he had been wrestled to the ground by several other agents.

Why is that murderer not in jail right now? I don't get it.

There are a lot of things you don't get.

I guess thinking that a thread about a politically neutral analysis might  remain politically neutral was too much to hope for.

I knew it wouldn't stay civil forever but I didn't expect it to break down with the first two replies.

I guess nuance and civil discourse is dead.

Oh well, I tried.

Not dead at all. I watched the video you provided. It seemed to me to simply verify the obvious. Preti tried to assist a woman who had been assaulted by an ICE/BP agent. He was then wrestled to the ground and shot ten times.

I mean, there's not a lot of nuance here. As I said, politics doesn't enter into it. This was simple murder. The killer emptying his clip into the victim shows unequivocally that this was an emotional, unprofessional action.

For what it's worth, I didn't see anything that would indicate that killing Preti was their intention at any point. The agent freaked out. You can't tell why they shoved the woman in the first place--again, an undisciplined, unprofessional action. The time between that happening and Preti trying to help her was less than two seconds. So I don't think anyone's politics were involved.

But we can all rest easy, knowing that justice is being done! Two of the agents, including the shooter, were just PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE!!!! Woo hoo! Justice is served!!!!!!!

Now that is a post that is more along the lines of what I was hoping for. Or at least closer.

I agree with the analysis in the video as well.

Although, I disagree with his legal opinion that the supremacy clause would stop the state from pursuing charges.

Administrative leave is the first step. A grand jury indictment is possibly the next step.

We will see.

It looked to me that Alex was on his knees covering his face/eyes in pain from the pepper spray (OC, whatever the narrator called it).  I can't see how he would be able to aim and shoot at anybody with his eyes on fire.

And that infernal ongoing whistle that somebody was blowing surely didn't help matters.  I'd surmise that it made things worse for everybody.  What was the point of that?

OC stands for Oleoresin Capsicum. It is an oil-based extract of chili peppers. Commonly referred to as "pepper spray".

The whistle is an unfortunate tactic that some protesters have been using. They're trying to make The agents uncomfortable and stressed out. They probably fail to realize that it also makes everyone else uncomfortable and stressed.

My understanding is the original intent of the whistle system was for communication. The idea was to give a few steady bursts of the whistle to alert people that agents are in the area so protesters and observers knew where to go. The intent was people didn't have to feel alone and had a way to ask for help if others we're not in the area.

Thanks.  The whistle stressed me out just watching the video from hundreds of miles away, in the comfort of my home.  Imagine the impact on the officers.  Not excusing, but guessing how much worse it made what they thought was their job, ability to properly assess and act.

I'd say citizens are uncomfortable and stressed out. There city is being occupied by an armed masked goon squad that is kidnapping and killing people on the streets. Worse yet they are an agency of the government that doesn't follow the law and routinely refuses to follow court orders.

But maybe you are right. They should put down the whistles and start bring guns to a gun fight.
