There is an old saying, something to the effect that "every kid needs to eat a little dirt to grow up healthy."
I always chucked when I would see a 6-month-old child crawling along the floor in a public place, and a pacifier would fall from his mouth. The mom would alarmingly wipe off the dirt and stick it back in his mouth. 5 minutes before and after the same kid was sucking on his fingers.
I have a buddy who owns a small vitamin and mineral supplement company. He makes a slug of money and owns a place near his suburban business, plus he rents a one BR apartment in Old Town, just on the SW corner of Lincoln Park. It’s a nice joint which costs him $2700 per month.............he weekends in the city.
He told me yesterday that if the violent “peaceful” protests get closer to his rental (and they just happened one mile away), that he will leave his Chicago apartment (Eugene Terrace) after renting there for 20 years. He can't be the only one thinking that way. The weak response from city government has encouraged and emboldened those who are causing property damage. The crooks are either not prosecuted, or they are given a slap on the wrist.
Steve is the kind of guy that the city needs in downtown, and they're about to lose him. Others will follow.
RE Boilerman's friend's predicament:
An unfortunate consequence of the BLM movement allowing itself to be overshadowed by the anarchist pay-for-violence movement. Weak response from city government is unsurprising, since the loudest voices gets the most attention, and city government is unclear where they stand...support the "peaceful"? Where does that line get drawn? What will I (city goverment) lose if I go commando against the insurection of the looting contingent? JMHO.
