On the July 4th weekend our president spoke to a country in the midst of social unrest and instead of trying to heal wounds he threw gasoline onto the culture war bonfire. That accomplished 2 things: furthering the social unrest...and providing lots of whacking material to the alt right.
His speech gave lots of red meat to the confederte monument supporters....while the name of George Floyd was not mentioned. Nor was the continuing issue of systematic police violence on people of color.
Boilerman, when you say you've never heard of the Southern Strategy - it was on full display this weekend at Mt Rushmore. Its pretty sad we have a president who only panders to the most fervent, fringe of his voting base. Most presidents make the effort to unite the country.
Trump showed that except for a dwindling base of supporters, he cares about no one, and no one cares about him. He's fading into irrelevance.
PJ is right that a true leader would try to heal the country's wounds and unite us. This President, however, is utterly incapable of doing that. I'm sick of Trump's hate and division and can't wait until we get rid of his orange ass.
