Bob, you are so confused I don't know where to start.
1. The Proud Boys is a pro-fascist right-wing group that supports violence. The Proud Boys traveled to Portland along with other white nationalist groups because it a progressive city and they were looking to incite violence with the liberals that live there.
2. A group of local counterprotesters met the invading Proud Boys. There were many different types of folks involved in the counter-protest with the uniting theme being that they were opposed to fascism. I saw very few people involved in the counter-protest that were wearing masks. However, this is what the White Nationalists wore to town.
Note the masks concealing their identity and the MAGA hats. Bob, do you know what the OK sign this Trump-supporting fascist Proud Boy flashes means?
3. I was not mocking members of the military. I was pointing out they were the original Antifa. The people that dishonor their memory and what the fought for are those that embrace fascism like Trump and so many of his supporters.
Mark claims President Trump "embraces fascism and dishonors the memory of World War II Veterans". Nothing could be further from the truth.
President Trump extols Americans "In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry, and white supremacy" . His Jewish Son In Law spearheaded efforts for prison reform that will free mostly black men and give them a second chance. These are not the actions of a White Supremicist. Veterans OVERWHELMINGLY support the president. Don't confuse love of country with Fascism. Don't buy into this disgusting smear of our President.
On the other hand, Mark supports a violent organization that assaults anyone they disagree with. They riot. They attack police. They destroy property. They burn the flag. Yeah...I'm sure my WWII dad would be rioting and burning the American Flag with Mark and these masked Antifa thugs.

Bob let me get this straight. The people that call themselves fascists aren't really fascists, but the people that call themselves anti-fascists are really fascists. Does that sum up your thinking?
The Mayor of Portland disagrees with your conclusion Bob.

"There is rhetoric that is aimed predominantly at women and people of color and immigrants. It creates a sense of uncertainty and a sense of fear. And so, Mr. Biggs and others saying that they're going to come here, that feeds into that sense of fear.

Wake up! I didn't say anything about the Proud Boys because they weren't attacking people or property or the police. The "antifa" FASCISTS were! The Portland mayor has coddled antifa in the past and I don't expect that to change. He told his police to stand down as antifa brutally beat Andy Ngo in June. Given you compared them to US servicemen in Nazi Germany, you not only support antifa and their violence, you see them as heros. There are fascists within both groups. I don't condone or support either of them. You do support one of them. That's the difference between you and me, and the mayor and sane people.
