I agree the overwhelming majority of Americans are not Fascists or White Supremacists. I think the % that are racist is probably as high as 25% - 35% of the adult population.
The current attempt is to associate Trump and Trump Supporters with Racism. Millions of Americans smeared with an unjust and untrue stereotype.
The problem is that 25% - 35% of the population I mentioned forms the core of Trump's base. It is usually the younger 18 to 40s conservatives that are the problem. If you don't believe me, hang around 8Chan and 4Chan or the Breitbart comment section for a while. What amazes me is so many conservatives or simply Republicans outside that age group don't see the connection. Those young White Nationalist conservatives started coming into the conservative movement because of the Gamergate controversy. A lot of older Conservatives don't even know what that is. It is what led to 8Chan becoming the face of this movement of young conservatives. A lot of well known conservative activists/pundits came directly to the conservative movement from Gamergate including Milo Yiannopoulos.
Couple these younger White Nationalist conservatives with the decades-long Republican Southern Strategy and Trump became the perfect candidate. Whereas Republican candidates in the past catered to this racist base of the Republican party with the dog whistle, Trump broke with the long-standing tradition of the dog whistle by being openly racist and misogynistic. The Republican base decided they would rather have the real deal instead of someone who sugarcoats their appeals to racists and misogynists with the dog whistle.
Trump is a racist. He often says racist things. However, it is not just the things he says, it is the things he does. I have said this what seems like a hundred times here, but the conservatives here and everywhere refuse to acknowledge it. Trump, members of his administration and Republican members of Congress designed a Census question to intentionally racily discriminate against Hispanics. They got caught when the guy they hired to do the wording of the question died and his correspondence with the Republican leadership was discovered. After getting caught red-handed and being admonished by John Roberts, Trump still had the audacity to try and get around the Supreme Court ruling and enact his racist by design policy. I don't see how you can not call someone that set out to design a racily discriminatory policy a racist. Please explain to me how that works? If you support Trump, you support someone who tired to permanently ingrain racism into the American political system. I hate to break it to you but if you support a racist, you are a racist.
For all your phony outrage, are you even aware the Republican party is currently attempting to smear all left-wing protesters as members of Antifa? The Republican Party even put together a memo outlining this strategy and sent it to all elected Republican officials. Of course, I am sure your news sources didn't cover that. Collectively, I'd suggest conservatives get their own house in order and acknowledge we have a right-wing terror problem in this country driven by the incitement of racism and misogyny by conservative political leaders including the President.
Mark, I cocktail regularly at my local pub with predominantly white people. I would guess that maybe 3% of the folks are black, plus a spattering of various others. Half they time I'm sitting with my black buddy, Dom. There's a few assholes there, but they are very few. I would say a maximum of 5% are racist.
If the rare black guy comes in with dreads, gold teeth, his pants half way down his ass and dropping the F bomb every other word................well people don't like that guy. It's not a color thing, but instead it's a culture thing. And it's not racist to state the truth that the guy I just described is likely to be a punk. Uneducated, underemployed, and simply put, crude. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to recognize tendancies after living on this planet for 60 years.
