What a joke. Its way to early for a voluntary quarantine. First of all, acording to a Harvard study no one knows how long the virus can stay on a surface, exactly how its transmited, or how long the incubation period is. Only after these questions are resolved will any quarantine be effective. I also believe that as Kevin states Trump supporters WILL be willing to die for Trump as well as people that HATE him. Thats because no matter how bad this gets Americans will not stand for being quarantined for long periods of time if they are not directly diagnosed with the virus. People need to eat and earn money and most Americans dont have even $500 in the bank. People are ignoring the general quarantine ban in Italy and we have more freedoms than they do. Luckily, we have the ACLU which will immediatly challenge any such order. We also have a populace with firearms who will resist any such order if it becomes draconian. Again I think most people need to realize that NO government can save them from this. If you're going to get it you're going to get it. Hopefully you get a mild case. Am I worried? No. Im over 60 and just went to a spring training game, am going to a hockey game later and plan on touching a lot of chips next week when I visit Vegas. If I have to give up everything I love in life I'd rather be dead. I think in the long run a lot of Americans will agree with me.
Actually, our government saved us from the Ebola virus during the Obama administration (I think it was 2009).
People will be reluctant to self-quarantine, which is why Democrats have introduced legislation to allow the payment of unemployment benefits to those who stay home and the availability of paid sick leave as well.
I doubt that we have "more freedoms" than Italy--Italy doesn't have Trump or Republicans. But yes, some people will be so thoughtless and selfish as to go out and infect everyone else. The magnitude of that problem is directly related to how long it takes government authorities to recognize and respond to it. Our government was slow and stupid in that regard, so yeah, it probably makes little difference now one way or the other.
This isn't an ACLU-our-precious-freedoms I'll-git-out-mah-shootin-iron type of issue. It's a matter of being responsible. If you develop symptoms, you should at least consider self-quarantine, at least until you can be tested. After all, even if you just have the flu, it would still be pretty much a dick move to go out in public and spread it, right?
