Purdue cost of attendance

Interesting article I ran into this morning, reminded my about this thread that was started a few months ago. A certain segment of people enjoy bashing CA and NY, but are the complaints accurate?

Hicks: Running Indiana like a business has failed (msn.com)

Like Boilerman I live in Indiana.   23 years now for me.

Indiana is a tale of two economies.    The northern part of the state is very comparable to rust belt America with lots of old manufacturing that suffered outsourcing.   And the sourthern part of the state is basically Appalachia with the same issues West Viginia suffers with no jobs and alot of meth.   THe population centers of the state - Indianapolis, Ft Wayne, (some) Chicago suburbs, and the college towns by Purdue and IU have been attracting alot of new generation manufacturing and Auto plants.    And Eli Lilly cant build plants fast enough to produce its revolutionary drug portfolio with weight loss.   And we got some nice investment from the Chips act too.

So it really just depends where you live and what line of work you pursue.

I've lived in states that were governed too far to the left (NY)  and too far to the right (FL) and I would prefer not to live in either of those states again for those reasons.   Indiana historically was a state that leaned right but not too far.  THats changed in recent years as Republicans have seized control of all branches of government leaving democrats with hardly any voice.     So far its mostly the social issues they've gone after - abortion, guns, voter id, etc....but the economic philosophy has been the same.    I hope it stays that way.  Some people are floating the idea of adopting the Florida/Texas model of getting rid of income tax in favor of higher sales tax and property tax.    I'll start looking for a new home if they do that.

Our current Republican Governor has actually been fairly moderate in his administration and I think he's ok as far as Republicans go.    His approval ratings are in the tank because the Republicans of the state dont appreciatte that fact about him.

Indiana is a shit hole. I know because I live there.

Republican economic and social policies leave people poor and miserable. Big corporations get richer, the air and water become polluted, and the state government only doles out enough aid to the needy to keep them barely alive.

I've traveled all over this country (every state except Maine), and with no exceptions, the redder a state is, the more tired and downtrodden the people look, and the uglier the cities, towns, and countryside appear.
