Rand Paul Says The American Healthcare System Is Good Enough For Thee, But Not For Me

Indeed, Senator Rand Paul has chosen to seek hernia surgery, related to the attack by his neighbor in 2017.

The choice is likely based on the reputation of the private hospital.

"Shouldice [Hernia Center] was founded in 1945 by Dr. Earle Shouldice. While private hospitals are not allowed under Ontario's Private Hospitals Act, Shouldice is one of seven private hospitals in the province grandfathered under the Act. The hospital has been continuously family run from its inception, but is largely publicly funded.

Everything in the hospital is designed toward hernia repair. Shouldice's rooms do not have telephones or televisions, which it says is to encourage patients to walk around while recovering. The hospital is laid out like a 'country club.' According to the hospital, it has the lowest rate of complications and recurrences of hernias in the world. The success of its method has been cited to the fact that Shouldice surgeons solely do hernia operations."

"Kelsey Cooper, a spokeswoman for Paul, said the hospital is privately owned and people come from around the globe for their services.

'This is more fake news on a story that has been terribly reported from day one — this is a private, world renowned hospital separate from any system and people come from around the world to pay cash for their services,' Cooper said in an email to the Courier Journal."

Senator Paul is seeking hernia treatment at the best hernia treatment center on this planet, . . . and so far as poor old DonDiego knows the best hernia treatment in the entire Universe, . . .  especially if, as he suspects, alien creatures may not even be susceptible to herniation.  And even if aliens are susceptible to herniation, they would likely choose the Shouldice Hernia Center anyway.

If Mark were ever to require hernia repair, poor old DonDiego suggests he forgo a stay in the Shouldice Hernia Center and instead seek treatment at his local branch of "Herniae Are Us !"

Once again, I have been proven right. Meanwhile PJ and Mark seek out another topic to target and run their ignorant, twisted liberal tougues about.

No, you have not.  Not by a long shot.  Don Diego's article says the clinic is subsidized by the Canadian government. That is how Paul is getting his low price.

I am correct about him having a choice where he gets his medical attention. His low price? Just where is that redundant "fact" mentioned?  Mark - try growing up and mind your own business.

The argument made by Republicans is that Socialist countries like Canada have inferior doctors, facilities, and general care than the UNited States...because....government.

It would seem Senator Paul does not believe that BS.

PJ, your twisted logic is so tiresome, re-read the posting by Don - Paul is making his choice because of the hospital's reputation- as would any sane individual, no matter where the hospital is located.

You are 100% corrrect.   He looked for the best hospital to take care of his condition...and he found it in socialist Canada.     Pretty amazing, huh?

On paying for one's surgery:

The Shouldice Hernia Center [SHC] is an anomaly in the Canadian Health Care System.

Canadians overall are covered by government-insurance ultimately paid for by the taxpayers. However, in the case of SHC, patients from all over Canada come to the hospital because of its reputation.  On its information pages the Government warns some citizens that their insurance may not cover the expenses at SHC - for example, citizens from provinces other than Ontario.  i.e. the socialist-government-system may not cover all Canadian citizens equally.

Perhaps the motto of those administering the Canadian Health Act of 1984 is "all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others" __ Animal Farm by George Orwell (also the author of 1984; 1984 ! ! ! What a coincidence !)

DonDiego has had hernia surgery some years ago, but he just did a mite of online research which suggests a simple hernia repair up heh' in Appalachia can be had for something between $4800 and $5500.  Between the Medicare coverage he was forced to purchase and the health insurance he purchases voluntarily his costs would be minimal, if any.
