Trump ordered pork plants to stay open. Now, their workers have to make the choice between showing up and risking their lives, or staying home and losing their unemployment benefits. Yay economic stimulus!
Trump, in another shoot-the-messenger moment, went ballistic at the person who told him that his poll numbers are tanking, particularly among seniors. EIGHTY percent of the country thinks it's too soon to open back up. That must include even the majority of Trumpers!
Far from the national unity shtick touted by both sides, the coronavirus is exposing the worst of this country and the deep incompetence of Republican governance. I know what our resident Trumptards will say, but I truly wish Trump had dealt with this crisis competently. I'd even put up with his reelection if that meant that our tens of thousands of deaths could be reversed.
I think Trump is mad because he realizes that if he had acted on the information he was given in early January, he could have saved lives and been hailed as a hero--and would certainly have been reelected.
And by "acting," I don't mean imposing travel bans and then running off to play golf.
