Remember when Reagan CRUSHED Carter in the 1980 election?

Reagan won 50.7% of the vote back then.

Biden is now at 50.8% and climbing.

I also remember when Carter gracefully conceded the election, left the White House on Reagan's inauguration day, and refrained from ranting about how Reagan was going to destroy the planet. He didn't go whining to the Supreme Court to ask them to cancel the results of the election.

Ah, the good old days (not that I think Reagan was an any better than fairly lousy President, but he was incontrovertibly a decent man).

MisterPicture notes: "Reagan won 50.7% of the vote back then."

Once again, the wisdom of the Founding Fathers had shown through.  That 50.7% resulted in an Electoral College total of:

Reagan . . . 489

Carter . . . .  49

Yes, we don't have a real democracy...yet. Thanks to DonDiego for pointing that out.

And I was just pointing out that those who say this election was close are...ill informed. See, I'm trying to be nice.

I've noticed that only Republicans, who benefit from the fundamental unfairness of the Electoral College, are in favor of it. I'm sure that they would be whining and screaming until they turned purple if the loser of the election, who wound up "winning," as has already happened twice this century, was a Democrat.

DonDiego cheers and applauds an institution that is an artifact of slavery and creates election results that contradict the will of the people. DonDiego loves slavery and its lingering aftereffects more than he loves his country. In that, he is a true conservative.

Don Diego finds something designed to preserve human slavery wise?

Since 1992, we have had eight presidential elections.  Democrats have won the majority, or plurality, in seven of them.  The idea that the "libralls" are a minority--though popular here among the right wingers--is, and has been, completely wrong.

In fairness, now it is designed to minimize the votes of urban (Black) voters. And you don't have to ask if DonDiego likes that. We know he does.

Poor old DonDiego opines that a system which mitigates the effects of big-city States on Federal Policy, even if only a little, is a positive for the Country.

Others are free to disagree.

(see, f'rinstance: Pros & Cons of the Electoral College)

That a disproportionate number of Black citizens choose to reside in big cities is not poor old DonDiego's fault.

Poor old DonDiego has never owned a slave.  Poor old DonDiego has never sought to own a slave.  Poor old DonDiego has no intention to seek or own a slave in the future.

Looks like 4 million votes is the water mark for our country to overcome affirmative action representation....aka "the Electoral College".

And angry white man, Lindsey Graham, just summed up his concerns about the most recent election.   Apparently not even the inherent bias of that system tips the scales enough in Republicans favor

I love how they just wear it out there on their sleeve

"Mitch McConnell  and I need to come up with an oversight of mail-in balloting. If we don't do something about voting by mail, we are going to lose the ability to elect a Republican in this country."

Fun Fact :  Republicans have only won a majority of AMerican voters ONE time in the last EIGHT  presidential elections.
