It requires new legislation to be passed. Do you really believe if the Republicans are in charge of the government they are going to reauthorize Social Security and Medicare? It's a ploy. Sunset in five years and reauthorize the programs at greatly reduced benefit levels.  Then rinse and repeat every 5 years until you achieve a permanent sunset.

First the crew said it sunsetting meant abolishing SS & Medicare.  Once they were told the facts, they then theorize (with no evidence) that they might be ended.
