Republicans praise 'big, beautiful bill’s' work requirement for Medicaid: ‘We’ve got to get back to work’

The provision requires able-bodied, childless adults between the ages of 18 and 64 to work at least 80 hours a month to be eligible to receive Medicaid benefits. Individuals can also meet the requirement by ​​participating in community service, going to school or engaging in a work program "It's amazing that Democrats are trying to make this argument," he said. "I don't think that taxpayers should be footing the bill at all for able-bodied citizens. And certainly, non-citizens should not be getting the benefit of this." Everybody should receive medical care. Period  Tuberville is an asshole. I'm amused that he dredged up SOOOOOOCIALISM.

   You are the asshole. Scamming the government - the tax payers - by refusing to work when one is able and receiving benefits  - the Liberal freeloading way.

A large number of American men of prime working age in 2023— between 25 and 54 years old — are not working or even looking for work, resulting in a major hole in the American economy. In 1953, 98% of men in that age range had a job or were looking for one. That number has fallen ever since. Today, 7.2 million men have essentially dropped out of the workforce.

According to the Brookings Institution, 7 million — or 12 percent — of prime working-age men in the U.S. are neither working nor looking for a job.

Jason Furman, chairman of President Barack Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, told Brookings that these are typically low-income men who either dropped out of high school or didn’t go beyond a high school diploma.

Although a small share of the men (less than 25 percent) have a breadwinning spouse and some collect government benefits such as Social Security Disability Insurance, Furman says the majority have given up on working after realizing that their limited skills and lack of education are hardly sought-after traits for employers. Says Furman: “They’re not spending any more time on child care, not spending any more time on chores. They are spending a lot more time watching TV than men who are in the labor force.”

I disagree.  Able bodied people should work and not get free shit.

Virtually every other advanced industrial/technological nation on Earth disagrees with you.

And these young people are usually in good health, so they don't need medical insurance as much as older people, parents, caregivers, etc.

Let's not pretend, though, that the health care cuts are anything but MAGA's fervent desire to kill black and brown people. And it'll do just that!

The work requirement doesn’t apply to anyone who is disabled, pregnant or caring for a child younger than age 14. Volunteering 20 hours a week or enrolled in school? You can get Medicaid. Don’t buy the Democratic talking point that the working poor will be lost in red tape as they try to prove they’re on the job. States have handled work requirements in food stamps and cash assistance for decades.

As the Foundation for Government Accountability notes, when Arkansas experimented with such requirements in Medicaid, “enrollees only had to report work once, and it was easy to do so.” The state cross-referenced wage and employment data and folks could also self-attest online or call a hot line. The Democratic position is that Medicaid should be a free universal benefit for men who refuse to work.

People who are over 14 can and often do need full-time care. They and their caregivers are now completely fucked

The reporting requirements in the Big Turd Bill are far more onerous than what Arkiesaw imposed. Many analysts say that those requirements, including MONTHLY, IN-PERSON reporting, to EACH AND EVERY TIME verify that the 80-hour work burden has been met, will discourage many people who are eligible. Not everybody can take a whole day away from their responsibilities to sit in an office and wait to submit a form.

The so-called Foundation For Blah Blah is a radical right-wing rag bag organization that Tom quoted several months ago when they enthusiastically endorsed Trumpf's plan to send 11 million brown people to Trump Auschwitz. So he's in agreement with them.
