The Repug Debt Ceiling Crisis can be solved if....

....Biden just follows the Constitution, ignore the no-nothing/do-nothing Republicunts and continues to pay on the debt.

Neither party is going to allow a default on the debt, imo. They'll arrive at some sort of compromise..because it's too politically costly not to. Then we'll hear / see multiple press conferences with a lot of 'bipartisanship' language. We'll see.

They'll raise the debt limit  without attachments a little bit  to buy another 6 months of time.

Reportedly - Republicans want to increase spending on the military and the border....and decrease spending on IRS agents.   All 3 of which increase the deficit.    So I dont know what Kevin McCarthy is saying that is suppossed to be taken seriously.

I wouldn't expect you to take McCarthy seriously..the arguments are about centuries old positions between R vs D. It won't change. These guys are fond of their jobs and associated perks, so some form of give and take on this debt ceiling has to occur for them to preserve their positions ( power and perks..both sides).

True.  And if Republicans want to use their majority in the house to press for a spending agenda going forward that is their right as determined by the election.   Thats why we have the budgeting process

But they want to void and relitigate legislation and spending that was already signed off on and approved by a previous Congress.         And they are using the debt ceiling as a hostage.

Thats where it becomes sleazy IMO.

It's not a matter of clashing ideologies. The RepubliQ should actually be in favor of adequately funding the IRS, for example. But their rich patrons want the IRS to be crippled.

And of course, the debt is the ongoing result of the Trump tax cuts, but the RepubliQ don't dare admit that. So they rail about "reckless spending," like a husband who decides to cut his work hours in half and then screams at his wife for buying food.

The 14th amendment

The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.

So the 14th amendment refers to debts incurred in supressing a rebellion, which is not the case here

You can't fucking read, can you? It doesn't refer to ONLY such debts.

Stupid Tommie-poo.

Yeah, Tom needs to work on his reading and reasoning.  Those were examples.

Personally, I like the idea of minting a coin to cover the debt.

I'll disagree with Charles. Charles is still operating on the assumption that nothing has changed with the Republican party in the last 10 years and there are still rational adults in charge of it that will do the right thing. The MAGAs are in charge now and they want to default on the debt if they don't get 100 percent of what they want and have been given instructions by their cult leader to do so.   To arrive at a compromise you have to have two willing partners and the Republican party isn't a willing partner.

Charles has a touching faith in his heroes, with the grossly flawed assumption that they are still rational and most importantly, that they still have principles, ethics, and honer...which they don't, having kicked those things into the crapper in their mad lust for power.

Just look at how often and how repeatedly they contradict the very sacred principles they bleat over and over. Of course, the latest hit is how the "party of fiscal responsibility" is willing to threaten to destroy the country's economy...but there have been many other times recently when they've shit on their own principles (many of which even I have agreed with).

Like a herd of elephants with diarrhea.
