Rioting is cool! Who knew!

I go to downtown Indy 2-3 times a week - and its not the least bit unsafe.     SOme buildings are still boarded up from the protests that happened after the police shootings this past Summer.   They were not repaired.  Most of those businesses / restaurants are closed or hae their people working from home because of COVID.

The downtown residential areas are booming like they have been for the last 12 years.   And They just opened a huge restaurant /bar complex in downtown Indy's nighlife district even in the midst of the COVID pandemic

And its pretty awesome

Sorry, Boiler, the vast majority of the BLM protests were peaceful and there was no need to call in the National Guard. If there was violence and/or property damage, it was isolated incidents for the most part. Contrast that with the Trump thugs' behavior yesterday.

It's racist and inaccurate to call the BLM protesters "rioters." But you know what? That's a tactic that's old as dirt. I remember student protests against the Vietnam war being called "riots" by the mainstream media of the day and the politicians then in power. It's an easy way to demean the protestors and their cause. I do not wish to demean the Black protestors or their grievances, which I feel are quite legitimate.

In contrast, the MAGA Moron March yesterday cannot be called anything but a riot.

More importantly - to the extent there was violence it was unanimously condemend by every BLM leader and all sitting members of Congressional leadership.

The shit you saw yesterday was sponcered and incited by the sitting president of the UNited States, several siiting US Senators, and almost half of the current Republican caucus in the House of Representatives.

So dont bitch about some thug asshole in Portalnd who burnt a store down and try to compare it to a coup of the United States government sponcered by a multitude of its current membership including the President himself.

I just talked with a buddy of mine who's a carpenter.  He's a skilled tradesman, and normally is doing commercial work and some upscale homes.  He's been doing a downtown Indy project so I asked him if Indy is still boared up and he said no.  The was paid lots of money to board up downtown businesses before the election, and got paid lots of money to take the boards down one day after the election.  Maybe three days of work.

What group of people where the business owners worried about?  Libs know, conservatives know, we all know.

True. Scared of their own shadows.

That's really the thread that runs through today's conservatives: cowardice. Scared of non-existent caravans coming over the border, scared of Sharia law, scared of gun confiscation, scared of black and brown people, scared of strong women, and on and on.

Have lots of locks on your doors? Pay for a bullshit identity theft service. Have gold and foodstuffs tucked away? And lots of guns to fight off the mongrel horde? Maybe you're a conservative.

And a coward.

Sorry, the biggest business loss during the George Floyd protests was the result of the actions of the "Umbrella Man " who is a right-wing white supremacist. Perhaps, business owners ought to be more concerned about what living in an authoritarian fascist dictatorship would do to their business?

At least two people died in the subsequent riots, which eventually spread as far as north Minneapolis and South St. Paul, and caused roughly $500 million in damage. Authorities have since charged a handful of people with arson-related crimes.  Link

Their fear is more existential and less specific. They know and fear that they are slowly becoming irrelevant. The days of the nasty old bigoted white man are drawing to a close.

You've identified the primary attribute of conservatism, though. Numerous studies have shown that conservative brains are wired differently than normal brains. Their fear response is heightened and more of their brains are used in preparing to react to perceived danger. To them, everyone and everything is a threat.

I think that given yesterday's lawless violence, we all know who the business owners were worried about. When Democrats lose, they write letters to the editor. When Republicans lose, they make Molotov cocktails and start fondling their GUNZ.

Here is what scares me about the ramifications for the protesters. Some are being fired from their jobs.

These people were delusional to begin with, now they have even more reason to hate the establishment. Is this creating more Tim McVeigh's?

Actions have consequences.  You choose the behavior, you choose the consequences.
