Rioting is cool! Who knew!

These people were delusional to begin with, now they have even more reason to hate the establishment. Is this creating more Tim McVeigh's?

If they can be identified as having taken part in the riot (in no small part due to all the selfies they took and sent), they have a LOT more to worry about than losing their jobs. They can be, and many will be, charged with armed insurrection, criminal trespass, armed assault, damaging US property, sedition, and...they are all accessories to murder! Doubtful we'll ever know which one of them killed that cop, but no matter--they're all, as the law says, "jointly and severally" culpable.

There are two kinds of losers: those who at least realize that it's their fault that they're in sad shape and those who blame anyone but themselves. Trump and his propagandist allies managed to whip thousands of these idiots into a lather. How many of them truly thought they were fighting the system, and how many were just delighting in the apparently Trump-approved vandalism and violence?

I favor lobotomies, sterilization, and twenty years in prison for each and every one of those goons, but that's not going to happen. Rather, a few of them will be severely punished, the rest will either be slapped on the wrist (trespassing!!!) or ignored altogether. I hope we have enough evidence to identify the worst of the perpetrators. If we knew who killed the cop, or who sent 50 other cops to the hospital, that would really help.

As to whether this incident has created a population of bitter, vengeful nutjobs--all I can tell you is, in my home town at least, you see these scumbags every day. It didn't take a murderous riot to make them that way. All that was needed was for a little Fox News sauce to be poured over their Bigotry BBQ. The Murderous MAGA Moron Marchers weren't the slightest bit unique or even unusual. The ones there were just those who were able to find Washington, DC on a map.

Kevin Lewis opines:

"I favor lobotomies, sterilization, and twenty years in prison for each and every one of those goons, but that's not going to happen."

Well such "penalties" as lobotomies and sterilization have been employed over the past few centuries, . . . even the mid-20th Century.

Curing a ‘sick society’

Adolf Hitler, other leading Nazis and numerous German academics were advocates of the pseudo-science of eugenics.

Nazi theorists saw German society as a sick organism, its bloodstream contaminated by degenerate and undesirable elements. Among those ‘contaminating’ Germany were the racially impure, physically disabled, mentally infirm, the criminally minded and the sexually aberrant.

The Nazis believed the state should intervene to improve the health of German society. The first step was to identify its contaminating elements, the second to restrict their growth, the third to eliminate them. This required difficult and unpalatable policies, which the Nazis justified with eugenics theories and references to social Darwinism (the ‘survival of the fittest’).

Poor old DonDiego is actually glad that such "applications of justice" espoused by Kevin Lewis will not happen.  It's sorta out of a preference for self-preservation; who knows what offenses subject to such punishment might be added ?

DonDiego apparently doesn't realize that had the Trump Lifetime Kingship Plan come to fruition, those who voted Democrat would have been subjected to penalties as severe or worse.

DonDiego is not so thick as to not realize that I was advocating for punishment for murder, not for eugenics. If DonDiego is actually glad that the vast majority of the Murderous MAGA Moron Marchers will not be punished in the slightest, that's his lookout. If he thinks that when a mob kills people, no one should be held accountable--well, that's his lookout, too.

The MMMMs committed two capital offenses: murder and treason, so my recommendation of surgical corrections and only twenty years' incarceration are quite lenient.

I'm guessing that Don--an enthusiastic Trump supporter--is just trying to muddy the waters so that he doesn't have to confront his own backing of this despicable and disgraced man.

You are so sympathetic to terrorists. When they are white.

I don't think he was being sympathetic to them. I think he was expressing worry that these evil, violent nutjobs will be rejoining human society, where they don't belong.

Where he went off the rails was in saying that they had "even more reason to hate the government." What would have been their "reason" before? That their hero, the Orange Turd, lost a free and fair election and all his attempts to subvert democracy failed?

Having been a Trump supporter will eventually be viewed similarly to having been a member of the Nazi Party in Germany in 1946. Cults are fragile and evil, though lethal, has a short half-life.

In five years, half the people who voted for Trump will be saying that they either didn't vote or voted for Biden. Their shame will be too great to admit what they did--and that their actions came within a hair's breadth of destroying our country.

KevinLewis addresses poor old DonDiego:

"DonDiego is not so thick as to not realize that I was advocating for punishment for murder, not for eugenics."

And in the post of  10:44am  8 January, KevinLewis stated: "If they can be identified as having taken part in the riot (in no small part due to all the selfies they took and sent), they have a LOT more to worry about than losing their jobs. Is KevinLewis now suggesting when he wrote "If they can be identified as having taken a part in the riot, . . . they are all accessories to murder", . . . he didn't mean it ?

Yeah, that is a thing. It is called felony murder.  In a nutshell, if someone gets killed while you are committing a felony you can be charged not merely with being an accessory but actual murder itself. A typical example would be something like this. A perp goes into rob a liquor store. He doesn't have a weapon but puts his hand in his jacket pocket to make it look like he does. He says to the clerk give me the money out of the register. A "good guy" with a gun is in the liquor store at the same time.  The "good guy" pulls out his weapon and takes a shot at the perp.  The "good guy" misses the perp and hits the clerk killing him. The perp gets charged with murder even though he didn't have the means to commit murder because he wasn't armed.

The idea is that you are responsible for what flows from your actions regardless if you intended the outcome or not.

Some of those conservative terrorists that were in the area where that officer got injured are going to be looking at 20-30 years in the pen even if they had no intent to harm the officer. In some states, this type of offense would be death penalty eligible.
