Well, it seems like a fool's errand to argue with someone who thinks it's clever to call a black Princeton graduate and a Harvard Law School alumnus as "ape lady', but, oh well, ok.
I am a very proud liberal, so I would likely vote for all of the mayors you mention, even though I don't know names or most of their policy positions--because the Republican candidate would likely be abhorrent to me. You seem to be confusing coincidence and cause here--a fault untrained minds often fall into.
I also would definitely live in any number of these "cesspools" if the situation were right. Actually we live close to Chicago and it has fabulous amenities, restaurants, concerts, and a diverse sports culture; and we visit it often. We are also familiar with Portland and love every experience we have had there; been to Minneapolis only once, but, had a pleasant experience. Much better than living in Podunk, Arkansas, or Good Ole Boy, Bama, for me--do they still have "whites only" restrooms there?
Now, do I support the violence perpetrated by a distinct minority of the protestors, no. Actually, I think violence hurts the cause about which that they are protesting. You see, sharing a political philosophy with someone does not mean that you agree with, or are responsible for their worst behavior. That you project the worst behavior of a group member onto all group members, again reveals how your over generalized, prejudicial, and stereotypical thinks leads you astray.
Let me illustrate, you claim to be a "conservative". Do you agree with the "conservative" who invaded a black church and killed nine people; do you agree with the "conservative" who drove his car into the crowd at Charlottesville and killed a pedestrian; do you agree with the "conservative" who mailed pipe bombs to Hillary Clinton, et al; do you agree with the "conservative" who invaded a DC pizza parlor and shot up the place because Hillary Clinton was running a pedophile ring out of the basement (note: no basement there), do you agree with QAnon nuts (note: QAnon particularly thrives on simplistic thinkers)? But, because you call yourself a "conservative" does not mean you automatically agree with every act committed by every conservative. Weak thinking there.
Again, Woody, living life as a bigot AND as an ignorant thinker, is not recommended.
PS: Oh, to my bud Tom, if you are not out with Trump playing golf, do you applaud the use of "crazy ape lady" as a clever phrase?
