Ross Perot RIP

6 month battle with Leukemia

The very first presidential election I ever voted in....and he was my guy.

America does not have the attention span to stomach the wonky presentations he did back in 90's.   Truthfully America did not have the attention span for it then either.    Thats kindof a shame.

A true American. A fine man who loved America.

Perot had since the Vietnam War era given tens of millions of dollars in support of POW/MIA recovery efforts and had made numerous trips to Vietnam in person. He spearheaded the installation in Washington, D.C., of the Air Force memorial, as well as the addition to the Vietnam War memorial of a haunting bronze sculpture of three brothers in arms. At Perot’s office (where he kept “all the stuff that my wife won’t let me keep at home”) an entire hallway was dedicated to Perot’s rescue from an Iranian prison of two EDS employees arrested in 1978. Perot, as recounted in Ken Follett’s thriller On Wings of Eagles, assembled a crack team of vets to sneak into Iran and get his people out. “My father had a huge amount of courage,” Ross Jr. told Forbes. In honor of the work he has done in support of veterans, several years ago a U.S. Special Forces team presented Perot with a walking stick. Recovered from Tora Bora, Afghanistan after 9/11, it is said to have belonged to Osama bin Laden.

Wow, PJ and I voted for the same guy.

Got 30 minutes?

Perot's detailed prescription for fixing the government, deficit, and jobs

Be forewarned....it largely sounds like the current Democratic Party platform and runs antithetical to everything you hear on FOX News.    His main points:

- Trickle down economics is complete BS

- close the unfair income disparity for women

- massively increase income taxes on the wealthiest people

- US Ceo's make way too much money compared to their workforce.   Regulate that.

- Our healthcare system costs twice as much as Europe...we should either reform ours or copy theirs to make it more cost effective

- Raise the gasoline tax,  remove income limits on Social Security and Medicare tax

- Use increased tax revenue for rebuilding infrastructure, future industries, and job training (like the rest of the industrialized world)

- Kill super pacs, limit campaign contributions to 1k, and guarantee equal ad time for candidates

- Make it illegal for washington politicians to become lobbiests - especially foreign lobbiests

- cut the military industrial complex.

- move election day from Thursday to an entire weekend so as to encourage more people to vote

Note to PJ - Perot lost

How much of his wealth did he donate to the govt?  Bet it was zero.

5% of the population uses 25% of the health resources. How do you plan on resolving that problem?

I know he lost - bummer, huh?

Most Republicans think he cost Bush the election which is an unfounded claim.   I can personally attest to the fact that he appealed to liberals....and it sounds like there are conservatives here who claim he appealed to them.

Perot proved the same principal we see in certain aspects of Trump's appeal.   Socialist policies become much more pallateable to conservatives so long as they are not pitched to them by someone they perceive as a liberal.

As to your last question - Perot answered it as noted in my previous post.   And I object to your classification of that issue being a problem.   The nature of getting older requires that one utilizes more healthcare.   So the only way to truly solve your "problem" is to implement the same healtcare system as described in the science fiction classic, "Logan's Run" where people are euthanized on their 30th birthday.    I think we can do better than that, dont you?

Trickle down economics is complete BS - UNDER OBAMA LESS THAN 2% GDP (HE SAID WE WOULD NEVER GO OVER 2% & MFG JOBS ARE GONE FOREVER).  WE HAVE 3% GDP GROWTH, WAGE GROWTH & MFG JOBS

- close the unfair income disparity for women - OFTEN DUE TO THE TYPE OF CAREERS WOMEN CHOOSE

- massively increase income taxes on the wealthiest people - WHY?

- US Ceo's make way too much money compared to their workforce.   Regulate that.- WAGE CONTROLS DON'T WORK

- Our healthcare system costs twice as much as Europe...we should either reform ours or copy theirs to make it more cost effective - MEDICARE HAS A $40+ TRILLION UNFUNDED DEFICIT, BUT THE DEMOCRATS WANT TO DOUBLE DOWN ON THAT DEFICIT.

- Raise the gasoline tax,  - TAX ON THE MIDDLE CLASS & WILL REDUCE ECONOMIC ACTIVITYremove income limits on Social Security and Medicare tax

- Use increased tax revenue for rebuilding infrastructure, future industries, and job training (like the rest of the industrialized world) FUTURE INDUSTRIES COME FROM THE PRIVATE SECTOR.  CURRENTLY THERE ARE 49 FEDERAL JOB PROGRAMS & BY THEIR OWN ADMISSION AREN'T REALLY EFFECTIVE

- Kill super pacs,DOES THAT INCLUDE UNIONS? limit campaign contributions to 1k, and guarantee equal ad time for candidates WITH CONTRIBUTIONS LIMITED NOBODY WILL HAVE MONEY FOR ADS

- Make it illegal for washington politicians to become lobbiests - especially foreign lobbiests

- cut the military industrial complex. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?  DON'T YOU WANT THE MILITARY TO GET A $700 BILLION INCREASE? (PER cortez)

- move election day from Thursday to an entire weekend so as to encourage more people to vote I THOUGHT ELECTION DAY WAS TUESDAY.  YOU DO REALIZE MANY PEOPLE WORK WEEKENDS NOW

PJ said, Socialist policies become much more palatable to conservatives so long as they are not pitched to them by someone they perceive as a liberal.

Yep, especially rural red state conservatives.  Many of them can't survive without the gubment cheese. Yet they don't see it as socialism.

As to your last question - Perot answered it as noted in my previous post.   And I object to your classification of that issue being a problem.   The nature of getting older requires that one utilizes more healthcare.   So the only way to truly solve your "problem" is to implement the same health care system as described in the science fiction classic, "Logan's Run" where people are euthanized on their 30th birthday.

Tom has indicated in many prior posts that he is pro-euthanasia. I guess you could say is he for postbirth abortions.
