Not to start a Sunday school lesson on Thursday, but this problem will never end. Jesus said it (John 12:8).
God said it. But, neither God nor Jesus intended that we throw up our hands and accept it, but that we get up off our duffs and do something. And that the doing benefits the homeless more than the organizers and people in high places who get the media attention but don't do much, which is always a problem, as well as the mental health problems, financial fairness, laws, morals, and now many regulations that get in the way (like distribution of food requiring public health inspectors), but I digress and don't have all the answers.
For the poor you will always have with you in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’ (Deuteronomy 15:7-11)
