Schumer threatens to kill funding deal if House Republicans attach elections bill requiring photo ID, citizenship proof

Mark thank you for your concern.  My daughter got a much better job with a better schedule and benefits that solved our drop off problem.  It still sucks for the many that were not so forunate.  And although my daughter doesnt vote, I think everyone else is perfectly fine with the choices that they made in the voting booth which is private.  I hope all is well with you.

I think voter ID is a solution looking for a problem, but I'm for it. It's pretty simple: if the government requires a government ID to vote, then every eligible voter can get a government-issued ID at no cost.

Any other problems I can solve for you guys?

OK...your simple solution. Joe Blow walks into the Gummint ID Agency and asks for an ID. They ask him his age, date of birth, residence, etc. But he has no ID or other documentation to prove those things. So what do they do--take his word for it?

But all that aside...you and I and everyone else know that the incidence of fraudulent voting is very, very small. I keep asking MAGA this question, and they always weasel: WHY THE FUCK WOULD ANYONE CAST A FRAUDULENT BALLOT, RISKING PROSECUTION FOR MULTIPLE FELONIES???

This MAGA propaganda "issue" is a complete nothingbyrger!

My simple enough to me comment was in reference to providing free IDs to people. States can and should require ID to register to vote and can and should give those IDs for free.

I agree with that. Yes, IDs should be free and they should not be difficult to obtain as they currently are in a lot of states.

Voting oversight must stay at the state level.

Then we don't need the Voting Rights Act.

Once this passed, this opened the door to federal oversight

The Supreme Court all but abolished the Voting Rights act...and it took the non-racist Republicans less than a year to start redrawing their districts using racial demographics as their guide.

Score another point for the Federalist Society which has replaced the Judicial Branch of our Federal Government.

The right to vote is determined by the Constitution. The Voting Rights Act strengthens and clarifies that right. The states are not allowed to cancel or modify fundamental civil rights.

However, the states are allowed, and entitled, to regulate how elections are held. They aren't allowed, or entitled, to say who can and can't vote. If they could, black and brown people wouldn't be able to vote in much of the country.

See the distinction, Tommy?

That's one of many reasons why I'm proud to be an Oregonian. IDs are very easy to obtain. You don't need any proof of residency other than your affidavit that you live in Oregon. There's a fee, but you can request a waiver.

We don't have a lot of anti-immigrant hatred (which is the sole "reason" behind all this MAGA ID kerfuffle) here, because our seasonal economy depends on migrant labor. We provide housing and medical care, and we pay a higher minimum wage than most states. So it's in everyone's interest to make it easy to obtain ID.

It's much different in the red hater states where they make it as difficult as possible. The ideological reason behind that policy is that to give someone ID acknowledges them as human, which MAGA is very reluctant to do for brown people.

And of course, they're all murderers and rapists and cast billions of fraudulent votes EVERY DAY. Billions, I tell ya!

They aren't allowed, or entitled, to say who can and can't vote. If they could, black and brown people wouldn't be able to vote in much of the country.

kevin proves my point.  The Feds can require proof of citizenship to determine who can or can't vote
