Senate Impeachment rules

It blows my mind that the same person--Moscow Mitch--is going to be both Trump's lawyer AND one of the jurors!!! He has already promised to twist the proceedings so that they favor the Orange One as much as possible.

The funny thing is, now the process really will be an "impeachment sham," as all the conservative pundits term it--once it reaches the Senate. Moscow Mitch will control the proceedings and make them all opportunities for Republicans to show their loyalty to Trump (as opposed to the United States) by standing up and screaming about how unfair the whole thing is.

As I've said before, the only real value of all this will be to put Republican senators on the spot. I'm torn as to whether the vote in the Senate should be secret or not. On the one hand, more Republicans might defect if the ballot was secret; on the other hand, if the ballot was secret, we wouldn't know which senators to beat over the head with their "not guilty" votes in 2020. (Not for sure, anyway--they would have plausible deniability if there were fewer than 53 votes to acquit.)

I believe Kevin was making a funny, and it was pretty funny.

These are the things we can all agree on.

1.  Trump will be acquitted by the senate

2.  Russia is very pleased with the wide and deep division of our country.

3.  If we do not heal our political differences, this country is much weaker. The future for us is bleak.

Calling for the death of a group of people is never funny

No, actually, my chagrin at Moscow Mitch acting as both judge and jury is real. It will make the entire proceeding in the Senate a farce.

We are indeed deeply divided. However, I think that we decent people don't want to "unite" with Trumpers, who, after all, support a traitor and the installation of fascism in this country. Also, they're racists, bigots, and idiots, so I don't want to kum-by-ya with them anytime soon. If they persist in their evil, we have no choice but to continue to oppose it.

I think we're completely fucked, actually, but any attempt to "heal our differences" would involve liberals giving up 99% and conservatives giving up (maybe) 1%. Conservatives have already shown themselves to be utterly intransigent on dozens of issues big and small. Meanwhile, Trump is running around trying to cancel laws and programs for absolutely no reason other than that Obama implemented them. Therefore, we decent people have to continue to resist the fascists as long as possible. We're going to lose, because hate, the driving force behind Republican conservatism, is the strongest human emotion. But I want us to go down fighting, even though the ultimate outcome will be that we're all in chains, lining up to kiss the feet of the statue of President-for-Life Trump.

Unless that group is Republicans, when it's simple necessity. But I already said we can't really do that, and even my mass sterilization program would be impractical.

Education is the only possible solution, and our only hope is that when little Johnny comes home from school, his parents won't force him to watch Fox News every night.

I think we should brand each one of them with a big T on their forehead.
