Senator John Fetterman (D) announces support for President Trump's capture of Nicolás Maduro.

"As a Democrat, I don't understand why we can't acknowledge a good development for Venezuelans and how deft our military's execution of that plan was."May be an image of text that says 'U.S. Senator John Fetterman @SenFettermanPA Less than a year ago, President Biden upped the Maduro bounty to $25,000,000. Removing Maduro was positive for Venezuela. As a Democrat, don't understand why we can't acknowledge a good development for Venezuelans -and how deft our military's of that plan was. execution'

My constitutional and legal objections notwithstanding, I am able to acknowledge how quick and surgical the operation was.

I also acknowledge that if things are done correctly moving forward, this could result in a net benefit for the Venezuelan people.

Waiting to see how things develop.

What you have stated here is truthful, - and your second statement will, once again, allow Venezuela to be the rich country it used to be - something that could and never did happen under Maduro.

Calling a prediction about the future "truthful" is a lie. No one knows what will happen and not even Trump knows what he'll do later this afternoon, let alone in the coming months.

If Trump acts as he has said he will, Venezuela's assets will be looted and they will not enjoy democracy. They will be a puppet state that is slowly drained of its resources.

Note that I'm not making what David calls a TROOTYFULL prediction, because that's an oxymoron. Statements about the future can't be either truthful or lying. David said that the Venezuelan Golden Age under the aegis of Benevolent Overlord Trump WILL happen. You said that IF things are done correctly, that COULD happen. Your statement is much more honest.

But really, when has Trump ever done anything correctly? And do you think he gives a rat's ass about the welfare of the Venezuelan people?

I think the answer to your question could be found in the reason why I chose to bold the words "if" and  "could."

Right, but that only implies a probability somewhere between impossibility and certainty. In order for the Venezuelan people to benefit from Trump's war, looting, and conquest, he would have to become a completely different person (one with a moral center, for one thing) as well as completely change his mind about everything he's repeatedly said he plans to do to them.

So yeah, not impossible. Just 0.00000003%.

So just picture my "if" written in a font point size that dwarfs a skyscraper. That's a darn big "if".

Yes, but you followed it with "things are done correctly," which is googol to 1 against.

I am compelled to ask, though...is there a "correct" way to conquer another country, kill its people, and loot its assets?

IMHO, if you take the gigantic moral leap to the position that this is something we SHOULD be doing, then at the very, very least, we should make it crystal clear that Venezuela's resources belong to them and we are stewards, not owners; all profits will be forwarded to the Venezuelan people. After taking a few hundred billion off the top to build the new gold-plated Trump Palace, of course.

No. There isn't. The the "correct" way moving forward that I was alluding to would be in direct contrast with the apparent current plans.

It would look something like helping the country hold free and fair elections as soon as possible. (perhaps with assistance from NATO or the UN). Then getting out and leaving the Venezuelan people to control their own destiny.
