I feel your anguish -
What's ''anguish''?
And why you feel it?
Here, read -an·guish
We honor some of our American founders for building America in spite of the fact that they supported slavery.
Racists honor traitorous Confederates because they supported slavery.
Any questions?
You pick and choose who you honor or despise. These same men supported slavery, though they were not Confederates. So they get a pass - that is some kind of twisted logic.

George Washington: Brilliant leader of the greatest underdog revolution ever. Father of our country. Appointed Hamilton and Jefferson to his administration, a couple of pretty good picks. Helped put our country on a sound financial footing. And some say most importantly, voluntarily chose not to run for President, modeling the peaceful turnover of government that we have been blessed with.
And he owned slaves.
Robert E. Lee: Traitor who led troops that killed many loyal Americans.
And he owned slaves.
It's subtle, but maybe you can see the difference.

The reason we should not honor Confederates is that they were traitors.
The men who are honored on our currency played a major role in the founding and/or history of our country.
You are deploying a pretty damn stupid "slippery slope" argument. It's really, really false. You lose.
