Part of my state is having wintry mix tonight.
The rest of the state is having cold rain but no wintry mix.
Which part of the state is occupied by liberals, which part by conservatives?
There has to be a karmic element to this, according to Kevin.
Nope. I didn't say CAUSAL. Karma doesn't mean that when you do something wrong, that has direct causal consequences--it means that eventually, down the road, maybe much later, you get what you deserve.
People who slavish toe the Republican party line and deny climate change deserve to suffer its consequences, since they are indirectly responsible for it (by stifling efforts to mitigate it). That's rarely how things work, though, so I've been kind of happy to see that for once, the ones who have been most affected by climate change are largely the same as those who have been howling that it's all a liberal hoax.
I do think that anyone who denies climate change because the fossil fuel industry pays them big bucks to lie about it deserves to have their house burn down or be flooded out. But that doesn't happen to the fat cat Republicans who eagerly lap up those bribes--it happens to their constituents.
Those, unfortunately, include both those who voted for Trump (who therefore don't deserve any sympathy) and those who didn't (who are unfortunate victims). My friends who used to live in Paradise--they were climate change deniers and Trump voters. I feel sorry that their house was destroyed, but I can only reflect that it was burned down because of something they constantly said was imaginary and a "hoax."
