Shooting in front of the Cromwell last Friday night

I heard about it while in Vegas, but haven't seen much in the news.  While watching the Bellagio fountain show on Saturday, I spoke with a cop who said the suspected bad guy(s) were pulled over for speeding and driving erratically shortly after the incident.  They arrested these guys as there was a bulletin out that fit the suspect(s) description.  I know few details beyond this.

The cop said that police believe that cheap room rates are bringing more "undesirables" to the area.  I would say from the crowd mix that this is likely true.  Downtown has also seen a change in the crowd.

There are more desperate people because they are out of work.

Demented plague spreader Donnie is holding their economic relief hostage because he is way down in the polls.

People out of work don't go on vacation & shoot people, criminals do.

I took what Boiler said as the cheap rooms attract down and out people from the area not folks on vacation.

How are economic conditions in Las Vegas?

It's the criminal element showing up from Los Angeles.  There's always some of that on the strip, but this year was worse than normal.

As I've said before - Vegas is a hyperbolic microchasm of the US economy.    When the US does well Vegas does incredibly well.  And when the US falls down Vegas collapses.

Its 2008 all over again.  I recall stories from then   about people being mugged in the MGM parking garage...and another shot in the Suncoast Parking lot.... etc, etc...

BTW - Anthony Curtis refuted the "room rate" rumor in the latest issue of the advisor.

Room rate "rumor"?  It's not a rumor, but instead it's speculation.  I believe that it's true and so do most LVPD cops.  They've seen the crowds change and I say it with my own eyes............both downtown and on the strip.

Yet agin, I have to explain this simple concept...correlation is not causation. One thing happens, then another happens---the first did not necessarily cause the second.

It's really, really easy to attribute a short-term rise in crime/violence to some "bad element" that is supposedly taking over the city. Cops are, let's face it, usually pretty dumb (they aren't hired for their intellect), so they will jump at any idea that sounds good to them. So will the media, especially conservative media.

Folks, this is how how residents of shithole* countries behave.
