While it has not yet qualified for the November ballot, the proposal — backed by the Service Employees International Union–United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW) — would impose a one-time 5% tax on the net worth of California residents with more than $1 billion in wealth. The tax would be due in 2027, and taxpayers could spread payments over five years, with additional fees, according to the California Legislative Analyst’s Office. If the measure is approved by voters, anyone who was a California resident on Jan. 1, 2026, would owe the tax, according to the proposal. The top 10% of earners bore responsibility for 76% of all income taxes paid, and the top 25% paid 89% of all income taxes. Altogether, the top 50% of filers earned 90% of all income and were responsible for 98% of all income taxes paid in 2021.

But they still aren't paying enough to satisfy the Kevin's of the world.

Everybody should pay taxes

Both FLorida and Nevada benefit from bring able to tax the bejesus out of tourists which relieves the burden on the state citizens.      Its a nice perk they enjoy.   Missouri doesnt get that benefit.

You'd think with all that extra tourist money flowing into the public sector they would provide better schools.

Trump has lots of RESPONSIBILITY to pay taxes. He doesn't actually pay them.

Florida is a swamp inhabited by people with crumbling brains and sixty trillion mosquitoes. They don't need education, and they don't care about it.

Nevada isn't about education, either. UNLV's largest department, and the most degrees conferred year after year, is "Hospitality." People go there to learn to become casino suits. And the kids are going to grow up to be blackjack dealers or cocktail waitresses. They'll make as much money as college graduates in other professions. All they need to do is stagger out of high school.

The quality of a state's educational system has nothing to do with the state's overall wealth. It has to do with whether its citizens care about education.
