So what news media do you rely on?

Caveat: By "news," I mean a source that has actual reporters, not just opinion pundits.

I like reading, not video. I don't own a TV and I rarely click on YouTubes. So I don't click on links from MSN or MSNBC because their content is often in video form.

I like:

New York Times

Washington Post

Los Angeles Times

Nevada Independent (I make a very small monthly contribution)

Wall Street Journal - even though the opinion section is right-wing and controlled by Rupert Murdoch. Incidentally, they have a great Black Friday deal, $4 per month for a year, cancelable at any time.

I don't like:

News from my Facebook feed, because I know it's designed to reinforce my beliefs and biases.

So in other words, you like being lied to - that explains everything.

This thread is for people who have the minimal amount of courage it takes to answer the question. David, I don't think you qualify.

According to David, everything he doesn't agree with is a "lie."

That explains his badly corroded reasoning ability and his twisted, evil, foolish political beliefs and slavish Trump-love.

Like you, I don't watch videos to get my information. I, like you, realize that they're rarely unbiased and are almost always doctored in some way. Davey-poo either doesn't understand this, or thinks others don't understand. When you get fed all your information by YouTube and Facebook, you acquire a distorted view of reality. But many people, like David, embrace that because it makes them feel good.

I rely on print media for my news. I subscribe to the New York Times online. They're a respected and reliable news source (insert screaming from Davey-poo about it being "LIBURRUL FAKE NOOZE"). I also read London, Paris, and Berlin newspapers---their non-US perspective is often very interesting.

People like Davey-poo will never admit that they suck on the Fox News tit not because they want actual information, but because they want to listen only to what they want to hear. It would take a level of introspection I doubt they're capable of for them to say, "You know, I've been lapping up propaganda for several years now, and maybe I should stop."

True, but that only applies to Fox up until the time that even THEY know it's a losing battle and start cashing their chips in with the....gasp.....truth, at which point all the trumpers have to seek out even crazier sources like Newsmax and OAN, which make Fox look like C-Span.  It's really a pathetic existence.

I too prefer written sources to video but nowadays a lot of written sources lead you to video.

Newspaper:

Washington Post

News/Opinion Sites:

The Hill
Politico

Axios

CNN.com
Raw Story (I usually check the primary sources they link to)

BuzzFeed

Social Media:

Twitter for first-hand statements and links to primary sources.

Facebook is just awful. If I wanted to live inside a fever dream, I'd go there for news.  Facebook has poisoned the body politic. Their engagement algorithm radicalizes the uninformed masses.  I see people I have known my whole life family, long-term friends, high school classmates and so on become full-blown conspiracy cranks over the past five years.   Most of these people had no or very little interest in current events or politics before FaceBook came into their lives.  Now they read a sensationalistic headline and a short paragraph of text that goes with the post and think they are informed. It is sad people don't know the difference between propaganda designed to provoke a reaction and news.

I started out my adult life in sales. In a three-year career, I sold insurance, cars and mobile homes. For those that are curious, the most lucrative of the three was mobile home sales. All the sales training I had over the years emphasized it is a lot easier to sell somebody something if you focus on what they want to hear rather than what they need.  Often, they will simply blab that they want this or that based upon a false belief.  More often than not, if you correct that belief, you will lose a sure sale.

When I worked as a small-town attorney, I'll confess I wasn't very successful because I refused to tell people what they wanted to hear. Most things you encounter as a small-town attorney are cut and dried like child support, criminal offenses that are pled out and so on. The typical call I would get would be a Bubba saying the "lying cunt" that was leaving him wanted $800 a month in child support and that was outrageous.

You simply put both people's income into a computerized form and it spits out a number.  So, the moral thing is to tell Bubba he should take that deal. If he goes before the judge, the support guidelines call for him to pay $1200 a month in support. However, if you tell Bubba that you don't get the case because Bubba will call somebody else that will tell him what he wants to hear.

Most attorneys would play this as, "Oh, my god, your ex is a real cunt!  Let's put the screws to her. Don't you worry we will get into the courtroom and I think we can do much better than that?  ...But understand I can't guarantee that result as it is up to the judge. "So, Bubba hires that guy and gets his day in court.  He gets ordered to pay the $1200 a month in support. And for dragging out such a trivial matter with clear-cut rules the judge orders him to pay her attorney fees too.

Both of those experiences paled in comparison to the Internet Marketing business I did for 20+ years. You find out soon it is hard to make much by offering a quality product or service at a fair price. People want to believe a magic pill will melt away their fat like magic. People want to hear there is an amazing business opportunity where they can work 1 hour a week and make millions of dollars a year for simply pushing a button. Men want to hear that some magic herbal cream will make their willy several inches longer. Again, a tough business to do ethically, but I managed.

The bottom line is there is a tremendous amount of money to be made by telling people what they want to hear, and the one born every minute falls into the same trap over and over again no matter how many times they get burned.  Pride and vanity extract a heavy toll on a lot of people.

David MIller's preferred information source told him Trump won the election....oh, and there's "forthcoming news" about voter fraud in large enough scale to nullify over a million votes in the swing states Trump lost.

Nuff said.

Here's someone's suggestions as to the bias of much of the media: Media Bias
