The latest conservative efforts to indoctrinate our children have included bills introduced to FORCE teachers to tell students that Marxism, communism, and socialism are BAAAAAAAAD and unAmerican. They can't just teach their students about those concepts and let them form their own opinions. They can't even avoid the subject altogether. They're mandated to indoctrinate their students and can be fired and even sued and/or be held criminally liable for FAILING to teach the eeeeeevils of socialism, etc.
Reasonable people know that these are simply political/economic philosophies, like democracy and capitalism, for example, and are inherently neither good nor bad. It's how they're applied that matters. There are good democracies, bad democracies, good socialist systems, and bad socialist systems. It's MUCH more complex than just screaming about THEM COMMIES.
I'm amused (and disgusted) by how conservatives bleat about the imaginary "cancel culture" but hypocritically, are trying to suppress open thought and the free exchange of ideas. They profess to believe in the "values of the founding fathers" but give the finger to free speech--at least the kind of speech they don't agree with.
The day the government tells teachers what to teach will be the day schools become pointless.
