Socialism

The food shortages hit during capitalism. There is no curfew and the suspension of priveledges is because of a viral pandemic. If you want to kill yourself fine, but at least have the courage to pull the trigger in your own home.  Don't infect and kill others by going to church, the beach, golf course or engaging in some other frivolous activity.

But I do think people like Socialism because they like their $1200 in Donny Dollars and they like their additional  $600 a week in unemployment benefits. They also realize living right now wouldn't be possible without socialism.

Universal Healthcare is looking pretty darn good right now.

So what you are saying is that apparently Venezuela has been suffering from a long standing pandemic, one that could be labeled "Socialism". I am curious to know if these people have received their Chavez dollars and are getting their weekly unemployment checks. And if they aren't, could it be because Venezuela has run out of other peoples money - you know the money paid in from taxes from those who work? Oh that's right, there happens to be a job shortage there now. And I am sure by now that they realize they are living the way they are because of Socialism.

Err, just curious, Mark.  How is "Universal Healthcare looking pretty darn good right now"??   Elective procedures delayed indefinitely; doctor visits curtailed; medical offices closed (can't pay staff); shortage of essential supplies.

I do realize there are differences, but this seems like a dress rehearsal.

Candy, that is a strange observation. The delays and closures are a result of the for-profit healthcare system failing.  Our system is designed to discourage people from seeking care (rationed care). It achieves this goal through the high cost of insurance and high out of pocket costs if you do have insurance. It doesn't work really well during a pandemic.  Now we need everyone that is sick to get medical treatment to keep them from spreading the virus. Yet the first question patients ask before seeking treatment is can I afford to get treatment?

Furthermore, our for-profit healthcare system is built on the just in time system. You don't have excess inventory to maximize your profits. For example, airlines like completely full planes and hospitals like completely full beds.  Both businesses limit their available inventory to maximize their profits.  This is why elective procedures are being canceled. We no longer have the capacity to handle all sick patients. Keep in mind this a feature and not a bug in the current system.

You also have all of these newly laid-off employees finding out their COBRA premiums are 2k a month and that still leaves them with at least $17.5k in out of pocket costs if they have to use the policy to get COVID-19 treatment. In other words, they are no longer shielded from the costs of the current system by their employer.

I didn't realize those things were symptoms of Socialism.   I can sound off a multitude of Industrialized SOcialist contries that dont have those issues ....and have better outcomes...and universal coverage....and better mortality rates....and much cheaper healthcare costs per capita

ANd I'm sure people on this board would counter that list with a bannana Republic dicatatorship  in South America that also allows the government to run things.

So I guess its just a matter of which of those examples is a more thoughtful compairson to what modern, Democratic candidates are pushing for in the US.     You're free to do your own homework.

(PS - if you believe empty store shelves and overrun hospitals are symptoms of Socialism you might ask why our capitalist country is  suffering from them now.    )

Let us know when you send your Venezeula check back to the Socialist dictator that deposited it into your account

Enjoy your stupidity - it suits you.

It takes a special kind of stupid to warn people about Democrats and Socialism in the midst of the most expensive, Socialist legislation in US history signed by a Republican President.

And lets face it, David, you sure are "special"  aren't you?

It takes a special kind of intellectual dishonesty to continually scream VENEZUELA VENEZUELA VENEZUELA whenever socialism is mentioned.

Any governmental system can be misapplied. There are plenty of failed capitalist states, too.

Stalker thinks emergency measures are socialism. They're not. They're emergency measures and any government would and should take them.

The doofus Trumper states had a lot of people exercising their democratic right to run around and infect everyone. That's turned out well.
