Spam, and lots of it, and why aren't these people booted?

Not sure if this technically belongs on Kitchen Sink, but really, what doesn't?  Several of the other forums, Downtown Hotels and Strip Hotels to name a couple, keep getting posts by Bitcoin ads, "diet pills", keto blah blah blah......bottom line, things that have NO connection whatsoever to the forum itself; at least if it were in here, I'd still ignore it, but it's literally the Kitchen Sink.

So, I keep responding to each of these posts just with "Spam" or the like, but is there someone who can be notified directly?  A moderator perhaps?  Thanks in advance, see you in 4 days!

Probably the proper place for this is "Questions For the Staff," but I can tell you that it's been asked already and the short answer is, no, they can't (or won't) do anything to prevent it, but they do try to clean it daily. I would think that somehow preventing these spam postings once and for all would be by far the less time-consuming option, but it ain't my website.

I can't imagine why these spam clowns think that people using these forums would be remotely interested in the stupid shit they're selling, but maybe they aren't that selective and their advertising approach is like tossing a couple of hundred thousand flyers out of an airplane.

We do have moderators that try to delete them asap (one is on vacation this week so that's probably why you are seeing more than normal). It's easy to see them when they are the only post in the topic. When you comment on each one it makes it harder to catch them and delete because the name on top now says David and not the spam name. We are working on something that will block all the spam but in the meantime just ignore or you can send a link to the spam post to me [email protected]

I don't recall the old model of this website as having this problem. Hopefully, this problem can be corrected.

It is really obvious from the title what they are, which is ads for marijuana products, male enhancement products, other snake oil stuff.

DNR--do not reply, as Tanya advises.

In fact, replying at all gives 'them' encouragement to keep using this site to hawk their stupid wares.  Just like the spam calls we get on our phones.  The more times someone answers, those are potential customers whether a conversation ensues or not.

I'm recently amazed to see "Spam Risk" on my caller ID at home.  This is new to us, so, yay.  I immediatly block that number.  I don't know how it is determined to be such, but I trust that it is something I don't want to reward by answering.

I get "Scam Likely." (My provider is T-Mobile.) What annoys me is that they're trying to get me to buy some kind of protection software for my phone--it's some kind of recurring charge--that supposedly blocks these calls completely; they don't even ring. My reaction was, if you can actually do that, you should provide that service for free, given that I pay you guys the equivalent of the GDP of a small country every year.

Something I can't explain: the scam calls ring 8-10 times. A normal call goes to voice mail if I don't answer it within 4 rings. WTF??

Scammers are more persistent.  Like, "ANSWER, DAMMIT!!"

Actually, in my childhood (way, way before cell phones or caller ID or answering systems) I was told by my parents that when making a call to someone else the courteous way was to allow eight rings before hanging up.  In case the person being called is there, wants to answer, but has difficulty getting to the phone quickly.

Times have changed.
