Spirit Airlines has shut down all operations, canceling all flights and leaving travelers scrambling.

If you have a ticket, don’t go to the airport and don’t cancel it yourself… that could hurt your chances of getting your money back. Instead, contact your credit card company and request a chargeback for services not provided. Other airlines are expected to offer limited “rescue fares,” but seats will be tight and prices could rise quickly, so rebook as soon as possible. --  May be an image of aircraft and text that says '.spir .s ROSSEN REPORTS BREAKING: SPIRIT AIRLINES OFFICIALLY GOES OUT OF BUSINESS TRAVELERS FACE MAJOR DISRUPTIONS'

Biden should have approved the proposed Spirit acquisition by Jet Blue.

Jet Blue can buy Spirit Airlines assets for pennies on the dollar in bankruptcy court as can any other airline.

But Jet Blue wont - because Jet Blue is in the same sinking boat as Spirit.

They have 9 billion in debt and are losing more money every quarter.   Current oil prices and market conditions are projected to burn through all their remaining  cash with one year.

The airlines with proven business models will buy those assets.

I am proud to say I have never flown Spirit and have only flown Frontier once. For over 35 years Southwest was my choice, but given what Southwest has morphed into I will not be flying them much, if ever, anymore. Southwest has been destroyed by the corporate bean counters and , in my book , has become Southworst/Greedwest. I expect for them to go down the path of Spirit in the not to distant future.

With jet fuel prices essentially doubled ( now over $5 / gal) since the Iran conflict began, the airlines are just going to jack up costs for consumers ( already have of course). Depending on the length / extension of this conflict, none of the airlines are 'safe' from bankruptcy / dire financial squeeze as any potential profits are going to be consumed by skyrocketed fuel prices. Of course the shoestring / budget airlines ( like Spirit) suffer the most, but the legacies are scrambling too. Any / all may increase ticket prices and bag fees/ secondary amenity options to recoup revenue margins; those typically drive air travel demand down to further add to the chaotic mix.

The price of jet fuel is temporary. I doubt that the price increases will be. Like Vegas, the legacy airlines are in full gouge mode - and will stay there as long as people are able to/willing to pay the prices.

By blocking the merger 17,000 people are out of work today, creditors will not be paid and thousands of travelers/employees are stranded.

This would not have happened with the merger.  Creditors would be being paid and while there would be less employees there would be a lot more than there are today.

Way to go Joe.

Airlines aren't going to be the only businesses Trump and his war will kill, but they're certainly first in line. Trucking companies appear to be next.

Also, pretty much every business is negatively affected because of the money Trump has stolen from every consumer's pockets. The hardest hit will be those that depend on discretionary spending: the travel market overall, and casinos in particular.

Let me guess:  if you get a pimple on your ass, it's Joe Biden's fault?

Way to go Trump, making it impossible for airlines, especially "budget" airlines, to continue operating!

Guess what, stupid Tom, both Spirit AND Jet Blue are dead because of Trump's war. Jet Blue is lasting a little longer, because they have a little bit more cash than Spirit. But they're bleeding out financially.

How would a merger have prevented that?

It's so hilarious when you MAGAs keep bellowing ITZ BIDENZ FAWLT when Trump does something stupid that ends up hurting America. I'm sure you have a handy Tom-stat that "shows" that skyrocketing fuel prices are because of Biden.

Don't disappoint us, Tom! Give us a nice juicy Tom-stat that PROVES that Biden caused today's high jet fuel prices!!!!!!
