Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

I just watched the first two episodes, available for free on YouTube. It's a prequel, dated ten years before the first episode of the original series. The Enterprise is commanded by Captain Pike, and most of the characters from the original series are there as well, including a young Kirk and Spock.

I really enjoyed it, and I think fans of the franchise will, too  if you're not a "Trekkie," many of the in-universe references will go over your head. But it's enjoyable as it stands.

I hope Paramount makes further episodes available.

It is the best Star Trek series since TNG.

Apparently, more than just the first two episodes are available. I've watched the first five so far, with a sixth I'm saving until after tonight's BBQ.

It is very good.  I'm waiting for the next season to come out.

It actually gets better too Kevin as the series goes.

I love how the franchise, dating back to the original series, has always served as a vehicle for topical social commentary. I've read that that has always been the central idea of science fiction, to illustrate the constant nature and questions of the human condition. Move a perennial human dilemma or conflict to a setting far away from earth, removing extraneous context, and the problem and solution (or lack thereof) remain the same.

I realized long after the fact that in the original series and well after that, the Klingons were the Russians and the Romulans were the Chinese. I mean, duh!
