Starbucks anti bias training (or whatever it's called)

Isn't this very reminscent of Orwells Re-education training? The end goal being to train the person to think "correctly" so they would now fit into society? I can onl;y imagine what a joke this was to some of the people, "Woohoo, paid time off !" or "this is the dumbest thing ever". Nobody will ever, EVER, change how a person feels, for better or worse, it ain't gonna matter.

Its pretty standard accross most corporate culture today...and its not really that controversial.     I have to take online seminars every year for education on diversity, workplace harrassment, and corporate corruption.

Legally its smart for companies to do it.

Starbucks real problem in the wake of this incident is their new policy that anyone can hang out in their stores even if they arent buying anything.   Some urban locations are going to likely have issues with hoards of homeless people using Starbucks  as a shelter which may scare away paying customers.

I agree with you. Clearly written and well thought out practice and procedure guides are a much better approach. I don’t think this sort of training works well. You can’t force a belief on someone. I also find the forced patriotism of the NFL abhorrent. Seems to me like most of the NFL owners true calling is running an internment camp, not a football team.

"Forced patriotism"?   Stay in the locker room, kneel there if you wish. When on the field and as the National Anthem plays, stand and show respect to the Flag and to those who served. Krapabovetheneck and those of his ilk need to find another arena to protest.

DonDiego has no bias with respect to coffee.  DonDiego prefers his coffee the same as he prefers his women, . . .  hot, light, and sweet.

But DonDiego recognizes others are entitled to enjoy their preferred coffee, . . . even if it is cold, dark, and bitter, . . . and likewise their own preference in women*.

Poor old DonDiego also participated in a workplace workshop addressing the equality of everyone with regard to race, color, creed, sexual preference, etc.

Pretty much a series of clumsy presentations of outrageous discriminatory behaviors to be avoided and group participation in similar skits designed to reveal ones biases and prejudices.

The good news: DonDiego was on-the-clock for a week of this enlightening experience.

**or one of each if one is ambidextrous.

"Seems to me like most of the NFL owners true calling is running an internment camp, not a football team. "

An internment camp would mean the players cannot leave.  They are more than able to walk away from their jobs & play in the Arena Football league.

The owners have the right to establish conditions of employment.  If the players don't like it they are free to leave

So I'm curious.  What would the correct response from Starbucks Management be in the wake of an incident where customers were clearly racially profiled in a ridiculous action by a manager at one of their stores?  Nothing?

Tucker Carlson seems to think the real victims of this incident are the employees who now have to suffer this educational seminar.

They said they were sorry & move on.  I didn't see Mcdonalds, Dunkin Donuts & other chains shut down their businesses when their employees refused to serve the police.

ah.     nothing then.

For the record...this was Dunkin Donuts response after the service incident with Cops..

link

"While these particular incidents are isolated to two restaurants, we see this as an opportunity to work closely with all of our franchisees and their crew members across the country to reinforce our obligation to serve all of our guests with dignity and respect, and to demonstrate our sincere appreciation and gratitude to everyone who makes Dunkin' Donuts part of their daily lives."

Looks like they will be educating their workforce too.   Those poor, poor workers.
