Starbucks founder Howard Schultz announces that his family is relocating from Seattle to Florida on the same day Democrats passed an income tax on Washington state.

What's the reference?

It is from the movie "Friday". Funny movie.

The only tragic part of this story is the fact that middle class Republicans have been brainwashed into thinking billionaires should pay fewer cents on the dollar in taxes compared to themselves.

Washington has (had) one of the most regressive tax systems in the country.      If you were a cashier or line cook you were paying about 13% of your income in Washington State taxes via sales tax/property tax.....wealthiest people were paying 4%.      This new law equalizes that.

Tom and David have a really big problem with that for some reason.     Thats what propoganda does - it makes people cheer for policy against their own interest.

Washington's state sales tax is 6.5%; so I don't know how that chart comes with 13.8%

State sales tax is 6.5.   Local sales tax an additional 3% on average.    And those are not  the only state/local taxes.   Property taxes / excise taxes / tolls  for example.

All of those things are not based on your income.  They are a flat rate which means they hit lower income people harder.

Something far worse nearby: Idahole has a 6% sales tax on everything, INCLUDING FOOD!! Talk about a regressive tax!

I've read that Idaho has the highest per capita population of millionaires in the country. I wonder if that's why the taxation system squeezes the poor.
