Elon removed his tongue from Trump's anus long enough to explain to him that a 25% Trumpiff on Canadian crude oil imports would probably crush our domestic oil production. Why? Because we produce mostly "sour crude," which has to be mixed with Canadian "sweet crude" to be refined into gasoline (at least, into gasoline that will meet required standards). So Dumb Trumpf reduced it to 10%. That will still, however, result in about a 5% boost in prices at the pump.
But wait, there's more! Canada is under no obligation to sell their petroleum products to us. Both China and Europe will eagerly buy up every last drop. Then, we'll be forced to use our own VERY limited sources of sweet crude...until they run out. And that point, we'll have to go hat in hand to Canada or any other suppliers we can find. Good luck with that!
