You are right that it remains to be seen.   No doubt Assad was a brutal dictator.  It might get better.  I hope it does.  It might get worse.  It's now being run by a US designated terrorist group.  The 10,000 ISIS terrorists being held in Syrian prisons might be unleased on the world.  That would be a bad thing.  It might devolve into chaos and Syria becomes a terrorist state.  It might forbode the end of the Kurds or the Christians.  It might somehow become the land of milk and honey.  As long as we aren't over there on a new Neo Lib 'nation building' exercise I don't give a fuck.  They've been fighting over there for centuries.  Duh.

Ukraine has been the cheapest and most cost effective use of our foreign policy dollars in my lifetime.  Russia has lost more soldiers than we lost in Vietnam and Korea combined.    And that was without a single boot of ours  on the ground.   Now they've lost control of their influence in the MIddle East too.        

The world's trade, commerce, politics and future development are being determined by two ideologies.....Democracy and Autocracy.   North AMerica, Europe, and SE Asia lead the former.. .   China, Russia, and Islamic Autocracies lead the later.      I like the group we're in.  You can make up your own mind.

And finally as to Trump and Putin,   although Trump had no problems talking to Putin, he imposed 40 rounds of sanctions on Russia, stopped the Nordstream Pipeline and helped drive world wide oil prices to such low levels that Russia wouldn't have been able to afford an invasion of Ukraine. 

What did Joe Biden do when he took office?  Reversed the Nordstream decision, didn't enforce the sanctions on Russia or Iran, drove the price of oil up with 90+ executive orders trying to keep his promise to end fossil fuel and botched the Afghanistan withdrawal  Biden enabled Putin and now you're more interested in killing Russians and Ukrainians than helping Americans.   Check...and Checkmate!
