Tale of the bad rapist and the good rapist

I find it ironic that the live coverage of the verdict and jailing of a rapist was followed almost immediately by the live coverage of a gigantic memorial service effusively eulogizing a different rapist.

The bad rapists have green skin

Well, what do you expect when we have a rapist as President?

Bryant and Trump got away with rape because they were rich and famous. In American society, fame and fortune "trumps" all.

Is rape wrong? That depends. Are you a Republican? If so, then...no. That's the real tragedy here--that Trumper scum, who number in the tens of millions, don't care that the Orange Asshole is a serial rapist.

By that token, Weinstein should have gotten away with it as well. While he was not as rich as Bryant, he was still filthy rich ($300m before being charged according to a quick Goggle search), and he was more famous and better connected to those with financial and political power than Bryant. So your explanation for the discrepancy between the treatment of the two icons makes no sense at all.

My theory: Sports stars and rap stars are given a pass by their fans when those stars commit the same violent crimes for which everyone else is held accountable. Violent crime by rap artists, especially, is expected from --  if not even secretly enjoyed by --  their fans. Everyone else, like the TV networks and pundits are cowed into remaining mum for fear of being accused of career-ending racism.

Martin, I think your theory is good.  I think it a combination of wealth and followers for lack of a better word. Kobe, Roethlisberger and Trump all have a lot of cult-like followers willing to break the law for them.  For the record, I am sure some rap stars do too.  When the Kobe news broke, I think there was one reporter that mentioned the rape and she was hounded, her employer suspended her for mentioning it, she got tens of thousands of death threats over social media and had to hire bodyguards to protect herself.

Weinstein had money but not a lot of followers. I bet 99.9% of the population couldn't name him when shown a photograph of him before the allegations surfaced.

I have said many times in this forum Trump could rape a busload of girl scouts on the front lawn of the White House and his followers including those here would scream MAGA! MAGA! MAGA! Fox News and the conservative media would spend hours describing how Trump is just being an alpha male and liberals are being outrageous for even bringing the matter up. Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh would prattle on about how the preteens were sluts that deserved it. Bill Barr would say even if it is rape you can't indict the President. Republicans in Congress would say it may be rape but it just doesn't rise to the level of an impeachable offense. Miss Lindsey would claim the whole thing smells bad because the Democrats put the bus of girl scouts there because they knew Trump couldn't resist raping them. Susan Collins would say she was very concerned but that she was unsure if it was a bad thing or not.

The bottom line is, if you have enough members in your cult that are willing to commit crimes in mass to protect you, you can get away with anything. That includes rape, stealing money from a charity, running a fraudulent university, treason and standing in the middle of 5th Avenue and shooting someone.

It makes perfect sense--Weinstein, unlike Bryant and (sadly) Trump, has no "fans." No one likes the guy, and he's perceived as a total sleazeball. So while he had the resources to hire a team of slick lawyers, that wasn't enough to get him off--or to keep him from being prosecuted in the first place.

Clinton raped and lied about it while under oath.  Hillary help cover this up.  Kevin loves Hillary and Bill.

Do not forget Michelle OBama praising Weinstein in 2013 for holding a "fund raising party" for the Obama's stating "he is a wonderful man who has done so much for others"

I guess you could call the Obama'a another victim of Weinsteins because he sure hoodwinked them

I'm guessing that Michelle Obama didn't have a complete picture of this monster at the time.
