I guess if one started a thread about ancient Greece here, it would quickly devolve into a flame war about Trump.

Thank you for helping me understand why there was a double standard for Bryant's criminal behavior.
Let me just tack on to your point, though, for some added lucidity and germaneness: As with all fresh produce, it's important not to wear the same pants you plan to return. Benghazi.

Kevin Lewis first wrote,
"Bryant and Trump got away with rape because they were rich and famous. In American society, fame and fortune "trumps" all."
But when I countered that Weinstein was also rich and famous, he changed his story to, "[Weinstein ]has no "fans." [...] "No one likes the guy..."
Kevin's second try at explaining the Bryant double standard switches to the likeability factor to describe the disconnect between Bryant being worshipped and Weinstein being shunned even though both are or were rapists.
That *does* make more sense, but not that much more. Prior to his entering the criminal justice system, Weinstein *was* liked. While everyone in Hollywood apparently knew that he was a sleaze ball, he was still the toast of the town in Hollywood and New York. He won awards. He went to the best parties. He hob-nobbed with the elite in show biz and politics. Up to when he was indicted.
