John Cornyn is calling on the FBI to locate and arrest dozens of Texas Democrat lawmakers who fled the state to block a Republican redistricting vote. The move comes amid broader GOP efforts to punish the lawmakers for abandoning their posts — and possibly pursuing criminal charges. -- Cornyn sent a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel on Tuesday urging federal agents to assist Texas authorities in tracking down the missing Democrats. He called them “potential lawbreakers” and floated the possibility of “bribery or other public corruption offenses.” Governor Greg Abbott has already ordered Texas law enforcement to arrest the legislators and has instructed the Texas Rangers to investigate whether any financial incentives were provided to facilitate their walkout. A Friday deadline has been set by Speaker Dustin Burrows and Attorney General Ken Paxton for the lawmakers to return or face legal efforts to vacate their seats.
