Looks like a case of criminal fraud, conspiracy and even human trafficking. They had fake brochures printed up they handed out to lure these people to get on the plane which have been posted online now. These DeSantis folks aren't too smart because they printed a brochure of evidence proving they committed crimes. Florida taxpayers are going to have to pay a lot of money to these folks.

The idiot sherriff said he doesn't know what law was broken, but he will investigate anyway. This is the same sheriff whose country found the truck with the 50+ dead people in it. If he was focused on his own county perhaps he would have found the truck before the people died.

DeSantis evidently thinks he has an invulnerable Teflon coating. Not as many people love Florida Man, though, as he thinks. It IS kinda fun watching him lurch off a political cliff. No asshole ever deserved a disaster more.
I don't think this was a criminal act. I don't think it matches the definition of kidnapping, human trafficking, or any other crime I can think of.
But civil fraud committed on behalf of the state of Florida? I'm saying yes. The state of Florida entered into a contract offering a plane ride and dishonestly promising residency, training, and shelter. And the victims gave of their time and inconvenience. Offer + Acceptance + Consideration = A Contract.
That's just business law 101.
