Texas - This state isn’t just growing — its economy is getting richer per resident

Edso - do you realize as teachers the CA pensions are underfunded by $232B; the worst in the country?  It won't be fixed anytime soon as the state is facing multi billion deficits for the forseeable future.

Yes, it is underfunded, but not sure where you got the $232B   It will take some time, but it has drastically improved in the past 8 years and going up every year.  Appreciate the concern, though.

California -530,886 (2020-2024) California experienced the second-largest population drop, losing approximately 75,000 residents in 2023 alone during its third consecutive year of decline. The number one reason people leave is cost, with California ranking as the nation’s second most expensive state behind Hawaii. Housing expenses often exceed national averages by double, while the state carries the nation’s highest income tax rate at 12.3 percent. Slow job growth and 441 businesses relocating headquarters since 2018 compound the challenge.

U-Haul data shows California leads the nation in net out-migration for six consecutive years, with Arizona, Nevada and Texas attracting the most residents.

Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and Illinois also ranked among the five states with the biggest net losses.

Well if people want to leave California, I just have one this to say.....Bye, Felisha, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

He pulled that Tom-stat out of his ass.

I don't know why the funding of pensions in a state where he doesn't live concerns him.

Saw the link in a later post, thanks Tom.   I am with CalStrs which is doing better than CalPers, but both are actually moving in the right direction since 2017 and will be fully funded (hopefully) by 2046.

It's California and most MAGA hate liberal California and Californians.  The info from the link he provided is legit, as it provides the same underfunded percentages that I have seen elsewhere.

What little Tommy with his little Tom-stat leaves out is that states with the greatest populations will always have a larger absolute number of outmigrations than other states with smaller populations.

That's just one example of Tom's dishonesty. Find something negative that occurs everywhere, then bleat that it occurs more often in this or that state. Like did you know that FIVE TIMES AS MANY PEOPLE DIE EVERY DAY in California as in Oklahoma?? Scandalous!!!!!

The shift of populations from the nice, rational blue states to the ugly, cruel, stupid, violent red states is a natural consequence of the aging of the populace. Many people will want to move to someplace cheaper when they retire. You get what you pay for in the Goober Belt, of course.

And it all stems from Trump the Fraudster having some of his real estate scams in CA and Baja killed off. People didn't like being stiffed by him. This was thirty years ago, but the Turd doesn't let go of his grudges.

Tom's a drooling Trump slave to be bitching about his master's favorite hate target. I'm strongly suspecting that what may be going on with him is that he wants to live in CA but can't afford it. He lives in Mean Old Fart Town in the middle of the horrid Arizona desert. No wonder he's jealous.

To each their own.  I like where I live.  It's not the Redwoods, where I was raised, but it has afforded a comfortable living for myself and my family.  Our house, which we have fixed up as we wanted, will be paid off the year I retire (2027), and when my wife retires in (2029), we will enjoy our modest lives in retirement.

One of our bucketlist trips is to travel up through Oregon and Washington, stopping at various towns along the way, eventually going to British Columbia.  After that we want to head over to the Dakotas, stopping at Little Bighorn along the way.....since I am a history guy.  Can't wait!!

The Oregon Coast is my backyard. I've spent nine of my last ten summers there.

The Washington Coast, though pleasant, is kind of meh scenically, because tribal land ownership, Olympic National Park, and the somewhat forbidding topography mean that you don't get to see the ocean much ..or the inland mountains. The Oregon Coast is far more scenic.

I would highly recommend reserving some (lots of) time for driving around Vancouver Island and the Sea to Sky to Whistler on the mainland. Stunning scenery. Nice people.

If you'd like to get a sense of what it's like to drive Hwy 101, check out the relevant "Traveling Robert" YouTube videos from a few years ago. He RVs all over the continent and videos his experiences from the dashcam POV. Really gives a sense of what it's like to be a tourist on the OR coast.

Robert twice expressed the sentiment that he wished he'd set aside two weeks for his Oregon 101 segments. I would recommend planning that as well. Your progress northward will be slow indeed.

If driving from Southern California to Washington I highly recommend taking 101 and 1 up the coast. It is an amazing drive.
