They're looking over your shoulder

That's why I don't do Facebook.  And I know I miss some important stuff, like somebody's lost pet, who at church is ailing, remote family news.

Tough call, but this here LVA is social media enough.

But, in answer to Kevin's question, I get a few 'invasions' but most have some connection to something I ordered online.

Example:  Sometimes I order cat food from Chewy, home delivery which is nice.  After one order I got an email from "FedEx", telling me "So sorry, but your order has been lost.  We want to compensate you..." which would involve me 'ordering' (with my cc of course) something through that email after which time I'd get a "prize" of some sort.  It didn't sound right, and thankfully I didn't respond, 'cause it was a scam or spam or something.   It was a FedEx scam, not Chewy, but amazing how just anything can set you up to be spied upon and tricked in some way.

I carry only liability auto insurance, because I've always driven older cars to their complete demise and didn't need collision. I haven't had an accident--or a claim--since 1980. As a result, my rates have been low. But when my previous car gave up the ghost, I bought another used car--with a salvage title. Older cars get those when they're in minor accidents, the insurance companies pay to buy the car rather than for its repair, and they sell the (usually perfectly functional) car at auction. I bought my present car that way, and dutifully informed my insurance company. They responded by increasing my rates by SIXTY PERCENT. I called them and asked them why they thought I was suddenly more likely to get in an accident. They said that their stats told them that salvage title vehicles are more likely to get into accidents. I said that was bullshit, and vehicles don't get into accidents-DRIVERS do. And my driving record is pristine.

So I went online shopping for better insurance. Big mistake. I was soon besieged by popups and spam emails promising 500 years of liability insurance for only sixty cents. I responded to a couple of those ads. Bigger mistake. None of those "companies" had anything decent to offer. I should have known.

I found out since that my premium increase was directly due to a shit move by Trump. Don't need to elaborate now.

Anyway, I get five or six emails every week promising me great auto insurance deals. Blocking them does no good--these spammers use hundreds of auto-generatec addresses.

Newer is not always better. There used to be such a thing as privacy. I think that part of the reason is that there is no mechanism set up to punish spammers.

I agree...no punishment.  I re-upped online for my car insurance.  Now, every day, multiple emails a day from insurance 'companies'.  I figure lots of them are hacks, the rest just me-too jippers.

Phone spamming is so bad.  Even "call block", which I do every time, doesn't stop the deluge.  Even registering to "no mo ro bo" and other so called blocking services doesn't do that much.  I suppose.  I don't want to find out, though, so I keep registering...sigh.

I have some kind of credit agency calling me every single day, though I never answer. I couldn't block the caller, because my phone doesn't block names, only numbers. I signed up for a free call blocker, which identified and blocked the assholes' number. It worked. For a day. Then they started calling me from a different number, and the blocker didn't work on that.

All I know is that they're in Idaho, a place I now have yet another reason to detest.

Jerry, when you first crawled onto this site, I thought you were intelligent enough that we could have decent conversations. But you quickly proved to be unable to restrain yourself from being an asshole. You've been attacking me and making gratuitous insults about my work, my life, my opinions, and my politics. And you know what? I've been pretty fucking gentle in return. I've laid off attacking you on your profession, your politics, your personal life, etc.

But no mas! And no more attempts at civil conversation! From now on, you get one response, and one response only: fuck you, Jerry.

Fuck you, Jerry.

Wait....are you saying you don't make a lot of perverted sexual comments?  I'm trying to figure out what I wrote that wasn't factual.
