We were appalled when Republicans in the Senate wanted to set aside $500 billion as Trump's secret slush fund. Turns out, that was peanuts compared to what they actually came up with. They "reduced" the amount to $425 billion but gave Mnuchin the power to grab that amount TEN TIMES. Because, y'know, when you're doing corporate graft, a mere $425 billion just ain't enough.
There will be an oversight committee, in accordance with Democrats' demands, but that committee will have absolutely no power.
Democrats in the Senate caved to this $4.25 trillion theft because they were desperate to get some economic help to average people. They got a few crumbs, such as an extra month of unemployment benefits.
4.25 TRILLION dollars. Think of that next time the "party of fiscal responsibility" complains about Medicare costs!
The bill is now in the House. Republicans are already touting Democrats' objection to the biggest corporate gift in history as "holding up aid desperately needed by American workers for political purposes." Really. Breathtaking hypocrisy!
