Those poor, poor oil companies

1. People's lives and livelihoods are being affected due to worries about the coronavirus, the need to self-quarantine, and the cancellation of events and gatherings.

2. Oil companies, after raping the public for, oh, a century or so, might have a low-performing quarter due to lowering gas prices because of a drop in demand.

Who does our bigly orange asshole President rush to save? Which of the two problems listed above causes greater concern for Republicans? You get one guess!

Maybe a few more people will realize that the difference is that Republicans care about businesses and the rich, while Democrats care about ordinary people and their well-being. Trumptards and their ilk always have some stupid propaganda and/or insults ready (and there's no doubt we'll see some of that shit in this thread, as surely as the sun doth rise) to hurl at liberals, but shouldn't our government work to improve the lot of the common man rather than to enhance shareholder value?

Boilerbaby is no doubt outraged about all the free shit Trump wants to give Big Oil and their ilk, so I'm sure he'll be turning into a Democrat any day now.

Still stirring the pot with the usual filthy spewing of hatred.

Kevin you seem like an inteligent person, so I know you realize no issue is a simple as you state them on this board. The solutions you provide are also black and white when they need colors. I know your smarter than that so your real motive is either to instigate or releive some sort of pent up agression issues. Either way I get a kick out of them, keep it up.

Kevin is smart enough, but his hatred gets in the way.

Kevin is right. This is a simple issue. No shades of grey here. This is a health crisis. Take care of people's health first not-for-profit businesses. I hate to break it to you, but people still aren't being tested. There is a shortage of protective gear. We don't have a plan to back up hospitals with resources when they get overwhelmed by patients. There is no unified policy concerning school closures, public events, in-country travel, getting food to self-quarantined people,  or pretty much anything else.   There is no financial bailout for regular folks some of whom will be missing a month or more of work, or for those that simply get laid off from their job during the crisis. There is nothing in the works to pay for individuals' extraordinary medical expenses.

The best plan for restoring confidence to the market is showing you have a plan to deal with the health crisis, not plans for bailing out Wall Street, Shale Oil, Hotels, Trumps' Properties, Airlines and so on.

I don't state the subtleties and nuances because the smart people (liberals) on this board already understand them, while the morons (Trumptards) will just scream and spew insults no matter what I say. Just look at how long it took Stalker (aka David Miller) to drop his pants and take a crap on this thread. And he thinks that his spew contributes something!

There's nothing I said that is particularly complex, though. It really IS black and white. Do we take care of our citizens or big corporations first? Where should the money go--to help billionaires get richer, or to help poor people stay alive?

It does come down to personal philosophy and the presence or absence of human decency and simple compassion. Does it bother you that people in this country routinely die for lack of food, shelter, or medical care? Does it bother you that some poor slob gets $97 worth of government benefits when he doesn't "deserve" those benefits, according to your criteria? Which disturbs you more?

So when I ask if we should be more concerned about oil companies having a substandard fiscal quarter or ordinary people undergoing hardships because of the disruptions to their lives, I think that is in fact pretty fucking black and white--and I realize that there are people here and elsewhere who would give each one of the two answers.

Some people--mostly Republicans--would be much more disturbed by a fossil fuel company having a lousy quarter than a few hundred of the inferior classes dying.
