The times, they are a'changing

We all know that Mayor Pete is openly gay, and shared a kiss with his male partner on the podium when he announced his candidacy.

Last night on Wheel of Fortune, a male contestant won a ton of money (he played really well), and his male partner came down from the audience and kissed him.

It wasn't so long ago that either one of these events would have had people frothing at the mouth and popping like overripe zits in outrage. Conservative columnists would have been screaming about how this was a sure sign of the apocalypse and that AMURRICA was in an irreversible state of moral decay and how the only chance for a solution was to elect more Republicans. Remember the "gay wedding cake" controversy that was falsely represented as a religious freedom issue?

I know Trumpers are still freaked out by this sort of thing, but for the general populace, the reaction is generally "so what?" Maybe we're actually evolving as a society, albeit ever so slowly. And maybe the Trumper hate-filled mindset is slowly losing ground in this country.

Let's hope so, anyway.

So what ?

So what ?

It means that one kind of hate, at least, is slowly dying out in this country.

If you want an apt parallel, prior to about 1970, black contestants never appeared on game shows. And they virtually never ran for political office.

As a good American who, I hope, believes in "all men are created equal," and the civil rights legislation that sprang from that idea, I would expect DonDiego to welcome these developments.

But perhaps DonDiego, like most Trumpers, only pays lip service to the concepts of equality and human rights. He might not understand that it's actually the foundation of this country--not that it's something we actually followed for most of our history.
