Timothy McVey was an avowed Christian. Was he a "Christian terrorist"?

And/or, was his OKC bombing an act of "Christian terrorism"?

If a person of the Jewish faith commits an act of terrorism, is he a "Jewish terrorist"? Did he commit an act of "Jewish terrorism"?

Does it matter if the terrorist's motives had nothing to do with religion or religious ideology?

I'm asking only because our forum's MAGA cognoscenti were VERY VERY quick to label the two incidents over the holidays as being acts of "Muslim terrorism" committed by a "Muslim terrorist."

Does that labeling only apply to people of the Islamic faith? Just curious. Whaddya think?

I'm glad you, Kevin, are asking about this, since you have said you believe God and Christ's birth and onward is magical thinking.

I don't recall McVey's religious background or motive for the bombing, and I'll take some time today to refresh my memory.  But I recall it was very purposeful with full knowledge on McVey's part that people who never harmed him personally in any way would die brutal deaths.  Clearly he had magical thinking of some sort that justified his actions in his mind.

People of many faiths, including Christianity, commit sin every day, whether they recognize it, or at points in their life don't recognize it or don't care.  "Honor thy father and mother"...I cringe at that one because as a smart-mouthed teenager I failed to "honor" my parents for which I am heartily sorry now.  Are some sins worse than others?  My belief after elementary study is all sin is sin, the same in God's eyes, but God is willing and eager to forgive if I ask for it and mean it and believe he forgives me.  But I do keep asking...really?  I hope He forgives me for that sin and others.

I know I'm not alone in that thinking.  Will/did McVey ask for and find forgiveness? (Was he executed?).  What about the 9/11 bombers?

IMHO McVey and the OKC bombing is a good example of what you and millions of others search and seek answers to, though you may be using it here to get at those of modern day political leanings that are in opposition to yours.  And that's OK, because at least you are seeking.

Candy

He wasnt a Christian terrorist.  Religion had nothing to do with his motivation.

He was a right wing nut:  White Supremicist, anti-government, 2nd Ammendment absolutist.   HIs attack was sparked by the Waco TX incident - cause he thought the cult leader was the protaganist in that story.

Statistically there are more of these types in America than Muslim inspired terrorists.   But in order to understand that you have to look at data instead of pulling statistics out of your ass.    And that seems to be the dynamic on this board.

After the last 4 years of "open borders", there are now a "lot more" inspired Muslim terrorists in America.

Candy, my reason for asking this largely rhetorical question is the recent labeling of the two incidents over the holidays as "Muslim terrorism" by some of the more idiotic idiots on this board. Their assumption is that Muslims are more violent and fanatical than "normal" people and that any time a Muslim commits a violent crime, it must have been religiously motivated.

The truth is that religion doesn't have a franchise on fanaticism. Nor does politics. A mass killer could easily just be angry at the world, have mental or substance abuse problems, want to commit suicide in a "blaze of glory," etc. I was just remarking that the far right likes to paint Islam as a violent religion full of crazies. Boiler was SO quick to say that the killers were of the Islamic faith (one was; one wasn't) and that their acts were motivated by religious fanaticism.

I could point out the many, many, many murderous crimes perpoetrated by Christian fanatics in the name of God over the last several millenia, but that's common knowledge. Let's stop pretending that Christianity has any kind of monopoly on goodness and purity.

Speaking of pulling statistics out of your ass...where is your proof of that statement?
