Harris started weak, she should have spent more time talking to the press to shake her nerves going into this. Trump's new haircut is a big improvement, does it signal he's worried? Harris definitely won the debate.

My only point is my long-held annoyance that Trump is too stupid or as usual just a liar about how tariffs work and who pays them. Just like he said that Mexico would pay for the failed wall, foreign countries don't pay tariffs, it's Econ 101 or high school economics. Yet MAGA eats it up and believes it, it's so basic it's embarrassing.

      Foreign countries DO pay tariffs if they want to sell their competing products in the USA.

Tariffs cost importers nothing; they are paid by consumers, and the revenue goes to the government imposing the fariffs. The billions that Trump boasted about were collected from American consumers.

Trump appears not to know this; I wonder if Millerscum does. Probably not.

You seem to have missed my point, Trump keeps saying foreign companies or countries pay the tariffs to the US, that's is not correct, the company that imports the product to the US pays the tariff.

What are tariffs used for? To protect US industry from typically lower priced foreign products by causing the price of the foreign product to increase, making the US made product more competitive. It's also a tax that raises revenue for the government.

Who ends up paying the higher price for the product?  The consumer.

Just like if the minimum wage is raised a business will raise the price to the consumer to cover the additional overhead.

Actually, it's 20% that he proposed, and 100% on Chinese goods. Boy, does he hate those heathen Chinee. I read that it's because they didn't give him approval to build a hotel/casino somewhere. And of course, his race hatred enters into it.

The primary reason why tariffs not only don't work, but have the opposite effect from that intended, is that they screw the pooch on the most important reason trade is beneficial: the law of comparative advantage. If China can make a $1500 electric car, we should be able to buy it. Then we can spend that thirty grand we were going to pay for a Ford Zap on something else.

Your guess is as good as mine as to which of those two it is.   Neither is flattering to his profile.

Tarriffs are neither "good" nor "bad".   They are a tool you can use to make sure fair trade rules are abided by.   Frequently China does not abide by them so tariffs are fine in that sense.   We should put a tariff on their steel right now as they are actively dumping it at a loss and putting pressure on our domestic steel companies.

"Universal tariffs' in the context of being punitive or just having a dick measuring contest is beyond stupid.   He seems to have a really hard time making a rational point without taking it to some ridiculous extreme.    He's a flawed man like that.
